Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens Cotswold Wildlife Park news 2020

This is not good and could be damaging for all collections, not just Cotswold.
This would appear to be in direct breach of many pages of very strict BIAZA member 'guidelines'. They are wealthy enough, and have had enough notice to have a system in place.
My advice would be to report your concerns to the BIAZA office.

i went yesterday and i have never seen it so busy, the 2m rule was well out of the window

I personally believe that it has been frustrating that CWP have not offered visitors a chance to book a designated day and time to visit and continue to sell e-tickets which are valid for any time/date within a 30 day period after purchase. ...

... I really would hesitate to visit again until there is something more sufficient in place to control guest numbers ...

I was going to visit today but despite their assurance that they had 50 years experience managing crowds, the lack of a proper booking system dissuaded me.

I was surprised you didn't have to specify a date when buying a ticket. The website does say they will limit numbers (the amount of visitors on Wednesday were manageable) but it sounds like this has gone out the window. ...

... Also strange was the lack of any booking system - many have implemented the same code - but Costwold just seemed to be selling regular tickets. ...

... I really do love Cotswold Wildlife Park and I hope that they can get a new booking system sorted as soon as possible.

CWP have been trialling a new booking system since 14 July. At the moment, it only allows booking one day in advance. I'd assumed that season-ticket holders would have to book a slot too; however, on their website, it states "Season ticket holders have been accounted for and there is no need to pre-book." So I guess you just have to hope that a large number of season-ticket holders don't turn up on the same day as your visit.

Visited yesterday; even with the new booking system, I've never seen it so busy (granted, this is the first week of the school holidays). Staff members, and the park as a whole, seem to have done as much as they can to alleviate crowding and general CoVID-19 transmission concerns (I mean, at least whilst balancing their dire need to maximise income), thus kudos to them, but people are people and, well, you can only expect so much outta' the great British public. Social-distancing was largely forgotten (despite repeated staff attempts to enforce). I spotted maybe a dozen folks wearing masks the entire day; about half that number noticeably coughing (without masks) in crowded areas. Yeesh.

There were fairly lengthy queues to get into the reptile house and one-way waterfowl / wolf / 'South America' section. It got better towards the end of the day; crowds started thinning considerably from 3.30-4ish onwards, and by 5pm we found the walled garden delightfully deserted.

And yes! The invertebrate and reptile houses are open, with a one-way system. It worked 'okay' in the reptile house - bear in mind if you want to spend more than a few seconds at any exhibit, expect impatient folks crowding up around you, breathing down your neck. The restaurant, lemur walkthrough, bats, Little Africa, hoofstock houses and parts of the children's farm remain closed.

Otherwise, was a pleasant day. Nothing particularly new to report; I think a couple of the frog species on display near the sifaka have been rotated. The young rhino calf is growing up quickly, and the stanley cranes opposite the camels have only recently had a chick. It's out n' about scampering after the 'rents.

TL;DR / General Recommendations: lovely day out, though crowds nearly everywhere. Best avoid popular sections unless first thing in the morning or after 4pm.

Unfortunately another giraffe has died at CWP - leaving just one . However it was already planned to bring some new giraffes to the zoo within next week. Another Chapmans zebra foal has been born. Work has been carried out on the lake in the walk thru' area including a dam to make the water deeper between the bridge and the rhino house. Rhino calf very active!

@trachycarpus which Giraffe has recently passed away and who is the sole survivor? Also which Zoo are the sole males new Tower mates coming from?

I believe Century is the oldest giraffe at 14yrs was born at Longleat and Wallace who is 12 months younger I think was born at Blair Drummond safari park. I could be wrong about Wallace though.

Does anyone know what has happened to the red panda cub born at the Park? I saw it had been spotted and photographed by a few visitors being carried by mum on the 1st/2nd of the month during the heatwave but no one has seen anything of it since then... we asked their keeper today whether the cub was still in there but they said there isn’t one, so wasn’t sure whether or not it survived or if it’s being hand reared?

Did CWP ever announce the arrival of the new giraffe? At least Century wasn't on his own for long.

@Embu do you know the sex name and the location of where Century’s new Tower mates come from?

As I don't work there or have any connections I wouldn't know, plus I'm still trying to establish when Wallace died .
I would persume they are all male and presumably from a breeding herd that no longer need them or need the space. Suppose we just have to be patient until they announce their arrival.
