Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Creationist Zoo causes dismay

Noahs ark Farm

Hi
I just wanted to ask how everyone felt about Noahs ark farms disposal of the dead tigress!
Chopping her up and keeping bits of her for "educational purposes".
is this common practice?

Many zoos salvage parts of deceased stock for educational purposes. I don't see a problem with that. Why dispose of something that has a use?

Some dead tigers are frozen & sent to Dr Andrew Kitchener at the Museum of Scotland where any samples are very valuable in his taxonomic & genetic work on tigers.

Wouldnt concern me, I would imagine its a common practice, as is feeding dead "livestock" to predators.

Yeah I dont see a problem either as long as the animals were not killed for this purpose. There was a situation in Ireland where animals in the care of the USPCA (3 lions and a tiger) were euthanised so their their heads could be sold to a taxidermist. It was a big scandal at the time and the people involved all lost their jobs. this is of course unacceptable!

STATMENT REGARDING TIRA THE TIGER
(From Noahs Ark Zoo Farm Website)

In response to the BBC's new media coverage of our Bengal Tigers, Noah's Ark would like to set the record straight after much mis-information has been presented about the source of our animals and the issues surrounding the death of our beloved Tira back in August.

We do not hold Circus Tigers here at the Zoo. Our tigers come from Linctrek Ltd based in North West England and do not belong to the Great British Circus, contrary to claims made. One of the directors of this Private Collection is also the Owner of the GB Circus.

Several untrue accusations have been made regarding the death of Tira the female tiger. Tira died of a pre-existing medical condition and after carrying out a thorough and legal post mortem, we buried her here at the farrm. This decision was changed after discussion with relevant authorities and Tira was taken away.

Our team of dedicated and well trained staff provide excellent animal care and we continue to manage our animals in the best way possible.

On the program it mentioned that they had also obtained a 2nd male from the same place as they got the females. They now house 2:1

Yeah his name was Khan and a video ad for the GBC clearly showed him performing ridiculous stunts with a couple other tigers.

How on Earth can you have a zoo that believes in a creationist and design?! That completely goes against what all other Zoos have been teaching (especially since Darwin's 200th!) I would hate to be a Keeper there and feel very sorry for the Keepers that are there!

Look at this! The Noah's Ark story @ Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

Well it's all rather a joke

Have you seen these educational pages:

Research @ Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

Unscientific hogwash. How ever do they get away with this nonsense.

The argument that the literal story of Genesis can qualify as science collapses on three major grounds:

1. The creationists' need to invoke miracles in order to compress the events of the earth's history into the biblical span of a few thousand years;

2. their unwillingness to abandon claims clearly disproved, including the assertion that all fossils are products of Noah's flood; and

3. their reliance upon distortion, misquote, half-quote, and citation out of context to characterize the ideas of their opponents.

I think rather than giving out anti-circus leaflets outside the place copies of Dawkin's "God Delusion" maybe more appropriate. ;)

Is there a private breeder of tigers? or is it martin lacey, I thought he kept and bred his own tigers?

according to them they were bred by a private breeder in the north. At the moment no zoochatters know which institution they mean.

Whilst not wanting to get heavily involved stating my opinions on the various matters (which are a mixture of those already posted, nothing new to add) I would make the point that Noahs are being a little disingenuous here -Martin Lacey actually owns/controls Linctrek Limited (and for all I know may be the company the circus is traded through).

I state this in the spirit of openness and clarity, not necessarily as a criticism of the GB Circus or any of the above issues. i.e. there's a possibility Noah's are either not fully informed or are not stating full facts.

The news that emanates from this place is mind-boggling. I would expect that we will soon hear that Craig Busch will be making an appearance in the near future... The tigers are used to close human contact, afterall.
