Berlin Zoo Crocodiles at Berlin Zoo

Misunderstanding, I guess: CSG-TTF members helped Leipzig to get the animals.
I will find out if F1 or F2 : Both the curator in Leipzig and the owner of the croc farm in Malaysia are good friends of mine.

I certainly will. I can probably help you too to polish up your German, which might be better than my English

Hi guys.
Just caught up with this thread.
Is the New Guinea Crocodile at Berlin being kept with the Nile?
Is it just the one animal, or are there more than one ?

As regards Madras Croc Bank, would they be able to export animals to collections in Europe & USA ?

The large nile died ( I guess 2 years ago ) and as I heard, there are a pair or more new guineas. I dont know exactly.

Yes, MCBT is able to export animals to zoos in USA or Europe. The Indian government does prefer exchanges with other species or significant contributions to gharial conservation in return. At this moment, the export of gharials to San Diego Zoo and Protivin Crocodile Zoo in Czechia is in the last stage of preparation.

In addition to crocman: both prague and crocodile zoo in Denmark received gharials from MCB.

The gharials in Pierrelatte (france) came from elsewhere, I believe Kathmandu (I have it written down somewhere)

And I believe that covers the entire european gharial population

Zootierliste mentions those you mentioned and Hamat Gader (Crocodile Farm and Zoo) if you count that as Europe. And they list those french gharial as from Kathmandu, Nepal too.

Thanks for the info, guys.
Shame about the big Nile @ Berlin. Does anyone know how long he was ?

@Bwassa: No Sir! I estimated close to 5 m , but never got detailed measurements from Berlin Zoo ( as usual ! ).

...but they didnt measure as well. Dresden just moved the crocodile and didnt take measurements and weight...unbelievable. In my opinion, the Berlin croc was larger than the porosus in Dresden.

haven't seen the one in Dresden, so no argument there.

In my head, the one in Amneville seems bigger than Berlins.
but that could also be because in Amneville, you're right next to it (which made it easy for me to "measure"), whereas in Berlin you're several meters above.

Either way, those 3 certainly were the 3biggest ones in europe, now down to 2.

Wow! 4 - 4.5m is still one hell of a croc! Don't think we have anything in the Uk to compare with that. But I'll ask around.
Thanks for the info guys.
