Crocs on a plane

The tub itself is ok for transporting a croc that Size. But not suitable in a situation like this were it may have other boxes stacked on top.

I'm amazed!

I have sent/received many, many species of animal, from Lions to Soft-bills, through AaE at Brisbane Airport and have always found the counter staff to be very concious of the safety and welfare aspects of the containment that animals are transported in.

I would be very surprised if they accepted any animal in an unsuitable container.

As Sid the gos has said, perhaps there were external factors that created this situation.

There's no way I'd be sending anything in a plastic tub, unless that tub was then put in a wooden box. Once you hand it over, you effectively lose control of how the container is treated. AAE may have been the couriers, but it said it was a Qantas flight, so you have staff from at least two agencies handling it. Plus theres always the possibility of cargo shifting in transit due to turbulence, rough landing etc.

:p

AaE is a partnership between QANTAS and Australia Post. They are normally very careful with the animals that they transport. I am surprised that they accepted an animal in a plastic box.

PVC drainage pipes are normally used for little crocs like this one. They are a much heavier grade of material and blocked at the bottom to stop them rolling, sealed at both ends and with ventilation holes, they have proven to be a very safe way of transporting animals such as this.

How this could happen? - Well, it maybe just mistaken with a new style of a Lacoste bag...:-)

The PVC method Steve described is the exact method I have dealt with freighting crocs down south from Cairns and is fairly typical of packaging used by farms, and is solid.

It is very common in the reptile hobby to use plastic tubs for other uses and also freight packaging, whilst I haven't had to freight anything I have received 4 pythons through plastic tubs via AAE. However, even I am surprised that this brand of tub was used, it is an el cheapo brand that does not hold up well to even mildly rough treatment. I only use this brand for cricket and woodie breeding tubs and even then I have cracked about half a dozen.
