On June 8th, 10 captive-bred Cuban crocodiles were reintroduced to the wild in the Wildlife Refuge Channels of Hanabana, part of the Zapata Swamp where they historically occurred.

The ten crocodiles, which were bred at a facility close to Zapata Swamp, have been released into an area free of American crocodiles and hybrids which is one of the main threats facing the Cuban species.

The Cuban conservationists were assisted by experts from WCS's Global Conservation Programs and the Bronx Zoo.
