Current/Former Koala Holders - North America

@Neil chace FPZ was the summer or two prior. They were in what I believe the current kiwis exhibit (former tree roo)

Koala were at Milwaukee Zoo in 1985 as guests, as permanent residents from 1992 until 2003 or so, and returned for summer 2007 on loan from San Diego Zoo. This article has some info.

Koala arrived in Lincoln Park Zoo in September 1988 in an exhibit at the Crown Field Center (now an endangered species carousel) at the zoo, when two females arrived on loan from San Diego Zoo, as described here. One of those individuals died two years later. I have never to date confirmed when they left the facility, but they were still pictured in a guidebook published in 1999, and the Crown Field Center was replaced by the AT&T Endangered Species Carousel in 2001. I have heard they may have been in Small Mammal-Reptile House after this but I am positive they were gone by Regenstein African Journey's opening in 2003.

We can add John Ball to the “former” list.
I believe Cheyenne Mountain Zoo had koalas in/near their (now defunct) Aquatics building, but that was before my time.

Koalas visited Toronto 3 times, 1988, 1996 and 2002. All were just summer visits. The last was a total disaster. Quamby died 2 months into the visit while Doowi died just before he was slated to leave. Toronto stated in their animal plan of 2020 that they were looking to import koalas from Australia following the forest fires of late 2019 and early 2020. However the pandemic happened and nothing has been mentioned about it since. Odds are any deal that was in place or nearly so was killed by the pandemic. Just have to wait and see what happens now that things are opening back up but I'm not going to hold my breath.
