And here we have the second wave of animal posters, including some notable African megafauna and the first reptile of the series. For the next 30 animals, I'm planning to make posters for all of the species in the base game roster of Zoo Tycoon 2 (with the exception of the Nile crocodile and gembok, which have both been swapped out with non-African species).

Still working on the continent-themed waves, but before I start posting those, I thought it'd be fun to do an Endless Ocean-style "encyclopedia" of many of the animals I've drawn so far (including some species that haven't shown up in any posters yet). My original plan was to do a mini version with only 50 animals, but I felt like 50 wasn't enough so I did 60 instead. At some point in the future, I'd like to do another version of this with 150-200 animals, but I still have a lot more posters to make before I can get to that point. This is basically a rough idea for that larger concept with a narrowed-down roster of animals.

Here we have wave 12, and for the first of the continent-themed waves, we've got AFRICA! Quite possibly the most underrepresented continent is the series so far (haha just kidding). Since most of the animals I've done for the series so far have already been African, I basically just wanted to use this wave to cover many of the other Zoo Tycoon/Planet Zoo mainstays that were left out of the base roster, such as the gemsbok and Nile crocodile. Also the first episode of Really Wild Animals was "Swinging Safari," so I was legally obligated to start with Africa.

Here we have wave 13, and the next continent on our list is AUSTRALIA! There were definitely a lot of interesting options to choose for this pack, so I wanted to make sure to have a good variety of animals, including the first fish of the series, Nemo and Dory themselves! And since the "Wonders Down Under" episode was followed directly by "Deep Sea Dive" in the Really Wild Animals series, you can be sure that there'll be a lot more fish in the next wave.

Here we have wave 14 of animal posters; we've finally arrived at the long-awaited marine expansion! Not only was it a lot of fun to draw all these sea creatures, but this was also an important wave for biodiversity, giving us the first cetaceans, first sharks, and even the first invertebrate of the series. Still, I didn't want to narrow the marine selection to just ten animals, so even though the next couple of waves are focused on continents, you can definitely expect to "sea" more ocean animal posters showing up in the future.

Here we have wave 15 of animal posters, featuring animals from Central and South America. Much like the "Totally Tropical Rainforest" episode of Really Wild Animals, this pack is pretty much entirely focused on the Amazon rainforest, but considering how it's the most biodiverse ecoregion on earth, it didn't feel restrictive in the slightest. Honestly, it was hard to narrow this pack down to just ten animals, because there were a lot of Latin American species I wanted to draw. Runner-ups for this wave included coatis, piranhas, quetzals, anacondas, and various other poison dart frogs (I'd still be up for including them in the series at some point in the future though).

And here we have wave 16 of animal posters, featuring animals from my home continent, North America! As a California resident, I'm definitely a little biased towards the Southwestern states, but for this wave I wanted an even mix of eastern and western species. Some animals, such as the cougar and rattlesnake, were initially planned to be included in the base roster, but I thought it might be a better idea to save them for this wave instead. We've now reached the exact midpoint of the continent waves, so for the rest of the week, my goal is to try and wrap up the three remaining continents by this Sunday (wish me luck).

Here we have wave 17 of animal posters, featuring animals from Europe. Strangely enough, Really Wild Animals didn't have any European-themed animals, cause I guess they weren't "really wild" enough for the show. I feel like if a European episode did exist, it would probably go between "Amazing North America" and "Adventures in Asia," so that's were I decided to place the wave in the series (normally I'd say spoilers for the next wave, but at this point there's only two continents left and I'm sure you all know what both of them are).

Here we have wave 18 of animals, featuring animals from the world's largest continent: Asia! Since I had already covered a lot of Asia's most iconic wildlife in the earlier waves, I thought this would be a good opportunity to bring in some more sea creatures that got left out of the ocean-themed wave. As far as marine life goes, however, we'll definitely see some more of those in the next wave as we approach the final part of the continent series...

And here we have wave 19, the last of the continent series! The final episode of Really Wild Animals's first season, "Polar Prowl," focused on animals from both the North and South poles, so I thought it would make sense to follow suit for this wave as well. I regret to announce, however, that I am planning to take a break from this poster series by the end of month. While I am still interested in making more posters in the future, there are a couple other projects I would like to work on this summer as well. Before I go, however, I would like to leave you guys off with something extra special, so stay tuned for wave 20 (anybody have a guess of what it might be?)

And now we've arrived at wave 20! If you read my previous post, I mentioned that I was planning to take a break from the series to focus on other projects, but I also said that I wanted to leave you guys off with something extra special. So without further ado, the theme for wave 20 of my animal posters is . . . DINOSAURS!

When I first created the series, I didn't exactly have extinct species in mind, and I don't know if I'll make more posters for them in the future, but I thought it'd be fun to leave off on an all-dinosaur wave. After all, I made previous waves based on Zoo Tycoon 2's base game, Endangered Species, African Adventure, and Marine Mania expansions, so why not tackle Dinosaur Digs as well?

I have to say, I was pretty satisfied with how these turned out. In a strange way, these dinosaurs felt simultaneously easier and harder to draw than most modern animals, but ultimately I had a lot of fun drawing them. My only regret is that this wave in particular probably won't age well, considering how our knowledge of dinosaurs is constantly changing.












So that's the last of this current batch of posters. Don't worry, this won't be the last wave I make for the series. After all, there's still a ton of animals from Planet Zoo that haven't received posters yet, so you can expect to see more of those guys sometime in the future. Maybe if this dinosaur wave is popular enough, I'll make another special wave of posters for Pleistocene animals. Let me know if there's any species you'd like to see from this series in the future. Hello again, everyone! I haven't yet made any new species posters but if you've been following my encyclopedia thread, you'll know that I've recently been drawing a lot of animals; part of that is because I lost a lot of the original drawings but the main reason was that I was interested in doing some ecoregion-based posters. The regions in question are largely inspired by the "Conservation Hubs" listed on the San Diego Zoo website, though a few changes have been made. It was fairly difficult squeezing multiple animals onto the same one page, but overall I was pretty pleased with how they turned out and would be interested in doing more regional-inspired posters in the future.
