Dallas World Aquarium Dallas World Aquarium

Actually, it is remarkable - it is of the Palawan subspecies, rare in US zoos.

You know, I almost didn't include that start to the sentence, because I figured there would somehow be something to make it not true :D They should have mentioned the Palawan part on their social media!

The new exhibit area that has been under construction recently opened along with the aquarium's reopening. Included in the new area are two new bird enclosures, an extension of the Orinoco free-flight area, two new mammal enclosures, a tank, and a wall of terrariums for amphibians. Species wise, most notable are the amphibians.

The amphibians present are:
Ranitomeya amazonica
Ranitomeya fantastica
Ranitomeya imitator
Ranitomeya sirensis
Ranitomeya summersi
Ranitomeya vanzolinii
Cascade Glass Frog- Sachatamia albomaculata
Sun's Glass Frog- Hyalinocatrachium aureoguttatum
Gliding Leaf Frog- Agalychnis spurrelli
Imbabura Treefrog- Hypisboas picturatus
Splendid Leaf Frog- Cruziohyla calcarifer
Oophaga sylvatica
Oophaga histrionica
Oophaga lehmanni

As for birds, the first exhibit is a waterfowl exhibit containing Silver Teal and White-faced Whistling Duck. The second bird exhibit is very similar to the lek that previously was where the new area is. It contains Andean Cock-of-the-rock and Screaming Piha. The new birds within the freeflight that I noticed in this area were Pompadour Cotinga, Guianan Red Cotinga, Purple-throated Fruit Crow, Blue-gray Tanager, and Silver-beaked Tanager.

Mammals includes a Cotton-top Tamarin enclosure and new Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth enclosure which is very similar to the previous one, just much larger.

Within the tank is some kind of prawn.

I believe that the new area is not actually complete yet and that there will likely be new species added to it as time progresses. There were several empty terrariums and a large meshed in area that appeared to be empty, which is where I draw that conclusion from.

I noticed several other notable changes throughout the aquarium as well. Most notably, the Yapok has been placed back on exhibit, and the Spectacled Owl/Occelated Turkey enclosure has been renovated and now has Great Tinamou and Keel-billed Toucans.

Other changes included:
-Red-breasted Toucans have replaced the Fiery-billed Aracari, Blue-banded Toucanet, and Plate-billed Mountain Toucan.
-Dendropsophus leucophyllatus is now on exhibit in place of the scorpion in Mundo Maya.
-Atelopus pulcher have moved off exhibit
-Spectacled Owls have replaced the Barred Owls in Mundo Maya
-Scarlet Macaws have returned to their exhibit in Mundo Maya
-Brown Pelicans are currently off exhibit
-The Emperor Tamarin enclosure now contains Emperor Tamarin and Many-banded Aracari, rather than Black-necked and Peruvian Black-chinned Toucanet.
-The previous Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth enclosure is gone completely now
-The Razorbill Curassow enclosure now contains Toco Toucan, Black-necked Aracari, and Gray-winged Trumpeter
-Red-billed Pintail and African Green Pigeon appear to no longer be in the Shoebill enclosure.

So no new Birds or mammals just moved on display?

Yes

So no new Birds or mammals just moved on display?
Species wise Pompadour Cotinga, Screaming Piha, Red-breasted Toucan, Great Tinamou, Keel-billed Toucan, Silver Teal, White-faced Whistling Duck, Gray-winged Trumpeter, and Cotton-top Tamarin were off exhibit and or new to the collection. Individual bird wise there are a ton more of several species flying around, such as at least 5 or 6 Guianan Red Cotingas rather than previously two and at least 3 or 4 Purple-throated Fruitcrows rather than previously just one.

Several noteworthy updates now.

In the new Cloud Forest Trek, there are now a pair of Black-and-white Hawk-Eagles on exhibit in a large space next to the large mixed bird aviary.

In the corner of the new Cloud Forest Trek there is a completely new exhibit with Cotton-top Tamarin signed (I did not see them though) and two Black-breasted Wood-Quail.

There are three new frog exhibits, each containing one species of Atelopus. These species are Atelopus elegans, Atelopus pulcher, and Atelopus hoogmoedi.

I caught a brief glimpse of a new species in the free-flight, a Blue-backed Tanager.

There is also now a female Brazilian Tanager in the Jungle Jewels exhibit.

Pudu is now on exhibit in the new Cloud Forest Trek enclosure.

Minor changes as they do not include completely new species to the species list:

The large mixed bird enclosure in the new Cloud Forest Trek contains, in addition to what it previously had, Spotted Dove, Wattled Jacana, Purple-throated Fruit Crow, Capuchinbird, and Golden-headed Quetzal.

A previously empty exhibit in the new Cloud Forest Trek now has one pair of Spangled Cotingas.

And finally, the Yapok and Imbabura Treefrog are off exhibit now.

A couple of changes that are rather significant I noticed today.

There are now four Lettered Aracari in two exhibits in the Cloud Forest Trek exhibit area. One pair is in the enclosure with Spangled Cotingas, and the other is in the Andean Cock-of-the-rock enclosure. This is the not the same as Humboldt's Aracari. It is the Pteroglossus inscriptus inscriptus subspecies or simply Pteroglossus inscriptus depending on what taxonomy you follow.

In the enclosure with Andean Cock-of-the-rock is also a pair of Ariel Toucans.

Neither of these species were previously on exhibit within the past several years.
