I stopped at 1940 for two reasons.
1) I didn't want to scare away potential customers with a large, thick book.
2) The zoo wasn't fully established until 1940. So I figured that would be a great place to stop, as it was the end of an era.
I use the word "established" in referring to its location. The zoo started at what's now Old City Park. Then it was moved to Fair Park. Then it was moved to Forest Park, which was later renamed as Marsalis Park. Then people wanted to move it to Keist Park, but the city didn't have the funds because of the Great Depression. Then there was another movement to have it moved to Fair Park. Because the city had spent so much money on the WPA projects, the City Council made it clear that Marsalis Park would be the permanent location. Although the movement occurred in 1938, I extended it to 1940.
I will cover the period up to the present day. But keep in mind that it took me two years just to get this far.
