I was also surprised that this was allowed and according to the dallas zoo this is NOT temporary. you can read the news article Dallas Zoo marks 'new phase' with demolition of building that once housed elephants, giraffes | Dallas-Fort Worth Communities - News for Dallas, Texas - The Dallas Morning News saying "Michael Meadows, zoo president and CEO, said he’s wanted to demolish the building for 20 years. “Even if there were no animals in it, it was an eyesore,” ". They scheduled the demo and hurried the move of the Black Rhino because they wanted green grass instead of "an eyesore". In the photo's attached to this article they have pictures of the elephants and giraffe in their new nice home at the zoo but they don't have pics of the rhino's new home or him outside in the snow and ice freezing.
