Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo News 2016

The zoo claims to have recently acquired four new species from Madagascar which will go on exhibit soon. Three are SSP species. They are spider tortoise, flat-tailed tortoise, lead geckos, and panther chameleons. There's been a panther chameleon on exhibit for a while (as well as one behind the scenes), and lead geckos have bred behind the scenes, but nonetheless, exciting.

Scimitar horned oryx will join the Sahara Desert exhibit on the monorail this summer.

What's a lead gecko? :p

As of yesterday:

The Aldabra tortoises had signage

Five species were actually put on exhibit in the outdoors reptile habitat.

Also, the future Asian brown tortoise exhibit has been completed. The barn and part of the fence were already standing, and now the rest is.

Another African penguin hatched. It's the third this year and fourth ever at the zoo.

The zoo is fostering a wallaby that was rescued from a home in Dallas. He is estimated to be a year old.

In addition to the new hippo exhibit does the zoo have any new upcoming/future projects?

White naped cranes coming to the tiger area.

Asian brown tortoises near Primate Place.

Scimitar horned oryx being added to the monorail.

Other than the okapi/saddlebill stork/red river hog exhibit that will be accompanying the hippo exhibit in Simmons Hippo Outpost, nothing else is official.

However, rhinos are in the ten year plan. They could have their own exhibit or be added to GotS.

I heard that an orangutan exhibit may be added down the path from the otters in a few years.

The zoo is considering building an exhibit for Mona monkey and Allen's swamp monkey in Wilds of Africa. They were taken off exhibit from Primate Place recently to make way for the spectacled langurs.

The baby elephant's name will be released by a special light show at 9:00 pm tonight, circling Reunion Tower until dawn tomorrow. It will also be released through the zoo's social media platforms.
