A Whooping Crane chick has hatched for the first time at the Dallas Zoo. The egg came to them from a pair of cranes from the International Crane Foundation. The zoo does not exhibit Whooping Cranes and plans to release this chick into the wild

The chick has now been transported to the Audubon Nature Institute to be released into the wild alongside 3 others

Other 2023 News:

On April 15th, the zoo announced that (1.3) Arapawa goats were born on March 22nd (1 male), March 28th (2 females), and April 6th (1 female) respectively. They were later named Mad Max, Biscotti, Cannoli, and Eclair.

On February 20th, it was mentioned that the zoo transferred (0.0.2+?) Sakishima grass lizards to the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas.*


On May 30th, the zoo announced its name, Kora.

On June 7th, the zoo announced that (0.0.2) spur-winged lapwings and a (0.0.1) Madagascar ibis hatched which are on exhibit in the Forest Aviary.

On August 6th, the zoo announced the lemur's gender (0.1), and name, Kintana.

On August 8th, the zoo announced that they transferred their koi fish to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Texas.

On September 19th, the zoo announced that (0.0.3) more flamingos (species not specified) hatched.

On September 21st, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (0.1) northern bald ibis to the San Francisco Zoo in California on August 9th.
