Faruk Yalçın Zoo Darica Faruk Yalcin Zoo

The zoo has now received the first Indian Rhino in Turkey. Male, Samir (bStuttgart2008) arrived from Edinburgh today following a 5 day journey by road and sea. Further individuals are planned to join him in 2016

Video doesn't work for me, can you explain what is disgraceful?

Big crowds of noisy people around the lorry and surrounding the pen inside the house as he was let out of the crate for the first time (this was after a 5 day journey). Keepers shouting to each other and the constant camera flashes

Poor guy didn't get a minutes peace when he should have been allowed to rest after such a long journey :(

Thansk Nisha. That sounds really bad. Did an Edinburgh keeper accompany him?

No - if they had then I suspect the outcome would have been very different

Hopefully they'll learn for (if and) when the next Rhino arrives

Also as a person who has been there and had an "apprenticeship", I can say that the place itself and the collection isn't really bad except for the fact that it is located on an hill. Most of the keepers I worked with wanted the best for the animals they worked for. The thing that makes the zoo unbearable is the visitors who litter the place and feed the animals

The sloths gave birth to a baby for the first time in Turkey let alone this park.

Sookie and Maddie the red ruffed lemurs have arrived to turkey from Cologne zoo.
