Darling Downs Zoo Darling Downs Developments

hi
i especially don't think u should scrap the south america bit. There is such an amazing selection of birds that come from that region its a real shame the major zoos dont exhibit them.
p.s hope u get plenty of rain for spring soil looks quite good

It is hard to judge which direction to take to ensure long term relevance.

There is a fine line between "postage stamp" and "responsible" collection planning.

But surely the "responsible collection planning" happens at the regional level. There's no zoo in Australia that can maintain an exotic mammal species on their own, I wouldn't think.

I certainly don't see a collection of say, maybe 25 exotic mammal species from around the world as postage stamp. Holding only a single tiger so that you can have a puma as well is maintaining a postage stamp collection.

Who is that happy looking keeper in the latest issue of "Thats life" magarzine playing with two stunning white lion cubs, Do we have a star in the making here ????????.

hmmmm

hey steve,
I was wondering, now that u guys have a pair of white lions (assuming u will try and breed them in yrs to come) will you still breed your tawny lions (assuming u already do).

How many tawnys do you have in your current collection and are many realated to each other? when was your last litter of cubs born?

We currently have 9 lions - including the two whites.

We will breed to order - either for our own needs or for our colleagues.

Obviously we have many combinations that we can breed.

We have had no reason to breed for the past 6 years.

Cheers.

A milestone today! Shaka, our male white Lion turns one year old today - 21 July 2010.

His partner, Shenzi, will reach that milestone on August 6.

They are both doing wonderfully well.

Happy birthday Shaka, glad to know they are doing well, any news about the other two white lions that came over with them?.

Yes MARK, they are both doing well also.

Their owner was here about 3 weeks ago and said that the two boys are about the same size and that Shenzi is a bit bigger than their female.

G'day KB,

The extension area is for our African savannah which will take >5 years to bring to completion. The good news is that the dam that Ben posted photos of is now over half full following recent good rains. We had expected that it could take years for this to happen.

The Blackbuck are housed in our South-east Asian precinct.
