More good news from the DDZ, 2 male Cotton Top Tamarins have just arrived from Bioparco di Roma Italy.
Both traveled well and are now settled in to Quarantine. They are to be paired with 2 females that the DDZ imported from the Auckland Zoo earlier this year. :)

Spring has really struck big time at the DDZ with the following births in the past week or so.

Wonga Pigeon
Eclectus
Agile Wallaby
Red Kangaroo

The Auckland females are genetically valuable since their parents were imported from overseas. Auckland’s breeding male came from Germany and the female from Italy, so there’s the potential for two genetically valuable pairings at Darling Downs Zoo.

Some news at the DDZ.

A two year old male Addax arrived at the zoo today from the Taronga Western Plains Zoo to restart the breeding program for this critically Endangered species.

The zoo has declined to breed Addax for the past 2 years due to the relatedness of their original male to many females within the herd!.

It’s been a good year for Cotton-top tamarins at Darling Downs Zoo, with the birth of twins earlier this year and the import of the four tamarins from Italy and New Zealand. :)
