Dartmoor Zoo Dartmoor Zoo News

Teaser on social media this evening... I assume this means their male lion is going to be greeting two new ladies.

Yes, two lioness' are due to arrive this week. I don't think they will go straight away in with Jasiri but they are called Kimya and Nikita. Not sure where they have come from but maybe someone on here will recognise the names.

Kimya & Nikita are coming from Longleat but were born at Blackpool zoo back in 2009. Their father is Wallace who himself was born at Longleat in 2006/2007. They were living with Nikita's son Harry according to Animal park last year so don't know where he will end up. Anyhow it's a reduction in lions at Longleat so that's good.

Thanks Embu.

Were those the three Lions then opposite the Hippo paddock at Longleat ?

I'm not too sure where they were as I haven't been for years long before they ever arrived at Longleat. All I know was they were kept together as a trio when Animal Park was on last year. Kimya & Nikita arrived at Longleat from Blackpool with their sister Lunar to start a new pride a few years back. Lunar has since moved to Folly Farm with her 4 cubs around 2014

Visited yesterday, lionesses still separate from Jasiri, but next door to him. Cheetahs looking lovely in a sea of Ox-eye Daisies, magnificent young pair of Amur Tigers, male Jaguar showing his strength and power pulling at a pony leg chained to a tree. Ellis Daw's old big cat enclosures still look good. Grivet Monkey enclosure looks good with Zoomesh surround and access to real trees -- not sure how much they use them. Three Plains Zebras, Capybara group using their lake, there's enough to see here still.

Sad news - no more bears at Dartmoor (for now at least) :(

Indeed, a sad moment :( but as one zoo’s story with brown bears (temporarily at least as you rightfully put it) closes another two (Wild Place and Wolds) open! So there’s that at least :)
