I dont feel this is zoo related, but it is certainly interesting, so I want to make this my only post on this thread (i'll porbably regret saying this later when im posting like crazy )

I hate the label "evil", evil is totally subective and know one can decide what is/isn't evil. In some opinions George Bush, an elected representative of the american people, is evil, (and so are various other people ranging from Hitler to this guy we're talking about now). No one is born evil, evil is a stuational occurance.

could the participants be labelled as evil?

An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind (was this Gandhi?). I strongly object to the death penalty. The death penalty is not justice it is revenge (revenge isn't a good thing)
1. how can you ever be 100% sure that someone deserves the death penalty?
2. surely that makes the instigators of the death penalty as bad as the criminals?

I hope this is all Im going to say. and agree that this is not zoo related.

I agree with you. i say eye for an eye lets hit him in the head with a rock and see how he likes it. Prison is a holiday camp anyway you dont have to pay for TV, water, heating. I say they should make an example of this so called man!

while his crime is disgusting and foul , it would only be stooping to his braindead neanderthal level of humanity to punish him in the way you suggested , let him go to prison and become the "sister" of cell block number 9 , or live in fear in his own life in prison captivity

I can't believe this thread has triggered a debate about the death penalty! You think the slaughterhouses and hunting estates of this country are any more humane? Sure, the guy was not allowed to kill this animal as it did not belong to him and he did it in a cruel way, so he must be punished, as is the case, but its a dangerous conversation when people start calling for others to be locked up (or put to death) for their potential to commit a crime. Even if he does have a swastika tatoo, that has nothing to do with this incident. A nazi symbol is not a reliable indicator that someone is going to break into a children's zoo and kill a deer.

I am impressed though that a debate on capital punishment was triggered by the death of such a common species - heaven knows what the demands would be if it had been a Philippine spotted deer........

The Deer was called Sandra

The deer killed was called Sandra- a 13 year old fallow. I looked after her the past 9 years and she was the sweetest little lady. They are a tame herd and have been clearly changed by this attack. I found her and new instantly what must have happened. The most awful memory i can't get rid off. I hope this evil human has the worst life. Sandra never deserved this and the though it was an ongoing attack sickens me to the core. God bless Sandra.

Animal abusers need to be done away with, I am so tired of them being treated as if they were petty criminals. Once they target animals, it is only a matter of time until they go after humans next.

My sincerest condolences Petperson- I can't imagine losing any of my animals in such a way...it's a sickening act of violence that serves no purpose
