On July 16th, the zoo announced they have opened a new training space exhibit for some of their ambassador animals, located between the Arthur E. Johnson Animal Hospital and Wild Encounters Building. It will house the grey-crowned cranes in the summer and Eurasian eagle owls in the winter, as well as be a training space for their parrots, birds of prey, and serval, among others.

On July 23rd, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) cinereous vulture named Bondi from the Oklahoma City Zoo in Oklahoma to pair up with a (1.0) vulture named Big Irv. The zoo also announced they have moved a (0.1) cinereous vulture named Large Marge to the vulture exhibit in the Pachyderm Building.

On August 11th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) black howler monkey named Rose has passed away at age 27 due to untreatable renal failure.

Does anyone know if this is the zoo's last howler monkey? I did not see any during my subsequent visit nor saw signage for it.

An East African crowned crane chick hatched last week to first time parents Lilith and Ruben.
Male Malayan tapir Benny will be heading to the El Paso Zoo soon. Additionally, a male tapir named JonHi has arrived from Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo as a companion for Rinny. Both moves were recommended by the tapir SSP.
JonHi came from Minnesota Zoo, not Omaha. Denver Zoo's twitter account put out the correction, also verified from here:

On October 7th, the zoo announced they are expecting a baby Linne's two-toed sloth soon.

On October 24th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) Brazilian teal and a (0.0.1) Barrow's goldeneye passed away from avian influenza. Due to this, their penguins (Humboldt and African), lorikeets, cassowaries, cinereous vultures, sarus cranes, ground hornbills, and other high-risk species are off-exhibit. They also suspended all bird experiences and programs until further notice.
