10th February Savio the male giant anteater left the zoo for Belfast

Capybara have now left the collection

15 gentoo penguins sent to Wuppertal

Japanese Serow have moved to Highland Wildlife Park

Darwins Rhea male & female have moved in to capybara enclosure (Tundra Reindeer replace them at the top of the hill with the Vicuna still beside the camels)

Is the former serow enclosure still empty, i hear they are waiting for some wolves from the HWP?
With the arrival of reindeer, wildcat, beaver and Eurasian otter along with the proposed wolves, have we a danger here of losing diversity in the two collections, HWP south?

I thought the general idea was that HWP featured wildlife from mountains and tundra while Edinburgh covered... well pretty much everything else.

Tsssshhh ;) it is not changing, just they do need to have enclosure/exhibits occupied in the intermittent period from Masterplan till reality (und we all know that sadly the Zool.Society is locked in battle with a drab dour visionless municipality and has stacks of available land).

So, a bit of a reality check ... my dears!

exactly! the wolves move down to the Zoo temporarily is better than moving them out of the collection and waiting a few years to get any more males

better to have animals on display and enclosures filled up than empty!

was at the Zoo on Saturday and the wolves enclosure is slowly taking shape with a new viewing point at the top of the hill under construction and the fence posts started to be placed

HWP is just widening its collection from scottish and 'ex scottish' animals into tundra animals such as Polar Bears,Amur Tigers and soon to be Snow leopards etc.
I think this change is good as it looks like such a superb place for animals such as these to be.
Its also increasing the visitors although from what ive heard too many for them to cope with! ;)

Male and female red river hog have left the collection to go to Yorkshire Wildlife Park - at best guess this is the pair from the bottom house which would mean the oldest male and the young female (her brother is still in the collection with an unrelated female)

Cotton-Top Tamarins have left the collection from the Magic Forest exhibit to go to South Lakes Animal Park

the zoo blog states this is to make room for other, higher priority, primate species

at the zoo on sunday so will try and find out more

Indah, the female Malayan tapir is being prepared for her move out of the zoo, the zooblog says she is being moved to a zoo in Kent, which could either be RSCC or Port Lympne, but i think, the male born at Edinburgh a few years ago was sent to to RSCC, so probably more likely to be Port Lympne.

Anyone know what's happening with the Sumatran Tigers? Has either left yet or been assigned?

They were both there 3 weeks ago when I visited back then, so I assume they are still there. Would expect it to be made news on the zoo blogg if they were leaving.

I know that the plan was to keep the male and for the female to move on to another zoo, not sure if that has changed or not, but they have been seperated and are now living in different enclosures

As you probably all know, the next animal to leave the park will be Mercedes the polar bear, who will leave the park within the next few days. The last day she will be on publicshow will be this sunday, so best get to the zoo and see her while you still can, because she will be off show until well after her move

The ringtail lemurs will be leaving shortly, to be replaced with rarer lemur species.

Also Fabio, the mature male yelloe-breasted capuchin will be leaving his home at the monkey house to be replaced by an unrelated male and a new breeding female.
