Destination zoos

I am looking to go on a trip this weekend to a zoo I have never been to . I will have to drive so distance and weather will be factors . I live near Nashville, Tn besides the Nashville zoo I have been to Memphis, St. Louis , Louisville, Chicago (Brookfield zoo) , Indianapolis, Detroit , Toledo, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

What are some other good destinations zoos . Ones I have thought about are Pittsburgh, Kansas City , Omaha, . New Orleans is a possibility but I would rather do a northern trip this time since it’s easier to go south In the winter than north . Bronx zoo is an outside possibility but it would be borderline as to affordability for me . Am I missing one ? What are your thoughts .

Topeka, Sedgwick County and Kansas City. Maybe Lincoln Park? Omaha is another destination zoo IMO.

Thanks for your input . Do you think Omaha would be worth the drive ? Omaha and Kansas City are zoos I am considering . Hadn’t thought about the others you mentioned until now .

Honestly I'd wait until next year for Omaha. While it is worth it now, wait until Phase 2 of Asian Highlands opens up next year. Sedgwick County's a consistently excellent zoo that's somewhat near. Kansas City is good if you're up for a very extensive walk. Topeka's one of the finest small zoos in the country and just opened up their Camp Cowabunga exhibit.

Kansas City and Sedgwick are both excellent zoos and worth the trip. On a side note, if you ever decide to visit several small zoos in a row: Topeka, Sunset Zoo in Manhattan, and Rolling hills wildlife adventure in Salina are all only 1.5 hrs apart between each zoo.

I have 3 days so I am thinking a couple of possibilities, these are just ideas and I might even do something completely different. . I will call these ideas groups one and two . Group 1 (Pittsburgh on day one Philadelphia on day 2 Day 3 maybe a smaller zoo not far ) (group 2 day 1 Kansas City zoo , day 2 Omaha day 3 blank park zoo ) the national zoo has been on my list to go to for sometime but it looks as if weather will not be good for that area this weekend , keeping an eye on the weather. So far it looks like west will be much better than east as far as weather is concerned.

Ugh too many choices just figured out the Great Plains zoo is not too far from Omaha. Too far though to do blank park and Great Plains in the same day.

I would try to stay west if it's for this weekend. I know Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are supposed to be clear on Saturday and Sunday, but I just have this feeling with the hurricane that the rain will actually linger.

Thanks . I have pretty much decided that’s what I am going to do. Now I just have to decide which zoos to go to Would it be doable to do Henry Doorly zoo and the Great Plains zoo in one day without having to rush through both . I will be by myself.

You could also do the small zoos as well, maybe 3 in a row?

Neither are destination zoos but being in Nashville you have Bright's Zoo and Tennessee Safari Park with in a few hours drive. They both have hoofstock you won't find elsewhere in the region.
