Dartmoor Zoo Developments on Dartmoor

when i went to Dartmoor in summer 2007 and i though the 'Tiger Mountain' was one of the best Ive ever seen with a few trees it could be alot better. The zoo had a brilliant Cat Collection and i think that it should definately stay there.

The problem here is that they have inherited a lot of old enclosures. Without razing them to the ground and building afresh (at probably impossible expense) they will always look outdated, even if tidied up and improved. I think it must be very much an uphill struggle to bring this zoo up to a higher standard.

You are right but you have to congratulate them on the new tapir enclosure, its much better than the old one.

I wish them the best and maybe in time more new enclosures will balance out the older ones.

The park is in an amazing setting. I don't see what the problem is, sure some fences look a bit tatty, but if you're needing lots of shiny glass windows and tidy woodstained decking then it's probably never going to be that kind of place. Incidentally, the tapirs used to have what was probably the largest enclosure in the UK for any tapir species, with a huge pond and field. Ok, so they had to share with rheas, llamas, emus and a seal, but I would have been more critical of the old house. Is the current enclosure now split off from the pond and the rheas? The main mistake was introducing 'Mrs Capybara' if that is what caused the fatal injury to the male tapir.

I agree with Johnstoni it is in an amazing setting and i think the right things for the park is Chainlink Fencing in Large spaces etc and the carry on to the Tiger River type enclosures.I dont think Heavy Duty enclosures all made of glass will not be the best use of the park.
But who knows what will happen?
Hope the best for the park and the right desisions are made
