Dickerson Park Zoo Adds Malayan Tiger

Dickerson Park Zoo is proud to announce the arrival of Jango, a seven-year-old, male Malayan tiger.

Jango arrived in early November and recently received his quarantine exit exam by Dickerson Park Zoo veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Zec.

While under anesthesia, Jango also went through another procedure to help protect his species. Jango’s semen was collected in order to save his genetic material for potential use in the future. He currently ranks as the number one most genetically valuable male in the Malayan tiger population.

Hey everyone! I’m living in Springfield for the year on an internship. If anyone has anything specific they’d like for me to look into when it comes to the zoo, please let me know! I intend to go about once a month if possible.

It’s a middle of the pack zoo. I have about 30 institutions on my life list, and this is set pretty comfortably in 18th place. If you’re a zoo fan, the enclosures are a bit underwhelming.

One thing I really enjoy about the zoo is their use of small indoor areas. For a lot of species, like Siamangs, Colobus Monkeys, Giraffes, and even Giant Tortoises, you can see them in indoor spaces if they are not out in their enclosures.

One thing I do not like about the zoo is the number of peacocks. There’s at least 30 free roaming peacocks I would estimate, making your zoo experience a jump scare simulator if you’re not expecting them to be noisy.

This place hasn’t had any pictures in the gallery since 2012 (not counting the one picture of a cobra uploaded in 2019) making the gallery quite outdated. If anything has changed since then can you upload any pictures of said change?
