I found Zie-zoo (officially) announce three projects which they seem to already be working on. Idk Dutch but they seem to be a building, an aviary, and a farm animal yard. (I suck at finding links for facebook posts)

I checked it on the Facebook page and these are three projects:

* Project Ontij: this will be located in the basement of the main building. "Ontij" is a word that is more or less only used in a certain saying and means something like "dark time of the day". It seems this project will be something like a nocturnal house. Cloud rat, kowari and two animals that I can not identify (snake? millipede? caecilian?) are pictured.

* Project Wetlands: a walk-through aviary for African birds like flamingos, white spoonbills, black ibises, cattle egrets, touracos and trumpeter hornbills.

* Project ZorgZoo: Zie-zoo offers daytime activities for people with autism. This area will give these people a place to work with farm animals (chicken, alpaca, camel and rabbits are pictured).

The newest map could be seen on the newsletter. The map shows projects such as the spider monkey islands, the flamingo aviary, african wild dogs, kitchen, the new entrance (with the black casqued hornbills), manul cats (next to the yellow throated martens), and an unlabeled area that is to be completed at 2022-2023.

The unlabled area of 2022 and 2023 is the mountain enclosures, which had that rumour of snow leopards

I was wondering, should there be a Dierenpark Zie-Zoo news 2021thread where the posts written this year are transferred there or rename this thread by deleting the 2020 part. I just had this suggestion in mind because there doesn’t seem to be many posts here as much as other zoos.

At the moment Zie-ZOO is the only collection in Europe keeping the Side-striped jackal - Canis adustus - but even when the park will open again, the public won't see them - they are kept behind the scenes :(.
Zie-Zoo now has even better news : 3 young have been born at Volkel :) !

As ZieZoo is preparing for reopening I came across this news article referring to the reoppening and some upgrades the zoo had.
Na maanden weer een stapje vooruit: ‘Wij zijn blij dat we weer open mogen’

In the article there was a photo showing the sign of the plan for the mountain area.

All I can tell from the photo is the bearded vulture and the mountain goat. The top circle looks like a takin. Does anyone know any other planned animals for this exhibit if it isn't confidential?

Close up from the signs! No takin, just another picture of the goats!

Concept art of the enclosures. That middle one could be used for either a snowleopard or mountain goats! Who knows! (The snowleopard comment is from a rumour that has been going on for a while for the zoo)

A new project the zoo will be looking at is a new project called Baribal. An updated American black bear enclosure that will be sharing with the wolverines. The future also wants to add fitting enclosures for the already onsite raccoons, skunks, ravens and snowy owls.

If I analized the art correctly this will be replacing the current exhibit but also the enclosures north of it (emu, vulture aviary, sheep, kea, alpaca). What will happen to some those species is unknown. (Maybe just moved around to other bits in the zoo!

Does the plan/art only show the bear habitat or does it also include habitats for other animals shown in the plan as well? If the former is the case than will the fitting enclosures for raccoons, skunks, owls, and etc be just an upgrade+expansion of the enclosures or just tear down the enclosures (and the ones near them) and rebuild them?

And if the wolverines will move into the bear enclosure, then what would move into the old wolverine enclosure in the parking lot?

The kea are moving to the mountain area, as shown in the picture right above the bear update.
Yea thats why I stated that it is unknown for SOME species.

It is unknown where and when the other surrounding animals will be added and what will be taken down for it, but I guess that is just being patient.
The old enclosure is likely to be used for either something else OR claimed as a BTS area for staff as it is next to the entrace ;)

Do you perhaps have a link to this? Very curious

Had a really fun visit to Zie-Zoo yesterday, my first zoo visit in 6 months. Saw every single species except for the wolverines.

The new entrance building is done. This includes the ticket counter, toilet block, gift shop, aviary for black-casqued hornbill, white-eared turaco and purple swamphen and a new enclose for caiman lizards.

The wetlands aviary is opened too. Inhabitants are greater flamingo (14), European spoonbill (10), glossy ibis (7), blue-bellied roller (1), black-crowned night-heron (1), cattle egret (5?), hamerkop (saw just 1) and white-faced whistling duck (saw just 1). Trumpeter hornbill and violet turaco will soon be added, the latter being a new species for the zoo.

The small bridge over the alpaca enclosure has been removed.

New species are Eclectus parrot and Malacca Prevost's squirrel. They are in the former amazon parrot / sun conure enclosure.

European aviary: Bohemian waxwing and bearded reedling have both left the collection - quite a shame as they were some of my favorites and they'd only been there for a few months prior to the zoo closing because of covid. However, the European goldfinch is returning to the collection (signage is already up, but no animals present as of yesterday)

The last Brazilian pygmy-owl has died, meaning the species is no longer kept. A real shame, they are such cool creatures.

Both leopard tortoise and spurred tortoise were off exhibit and the signage was removed - not sure if temporary or if these species left the collection entirely.

The former bat-eared fox enclosure has been merged with the banded mongoose enclosure, giving those animals double the amount of space.

Rock cavy is signed again, after being taken off-show last year. I didn't see any, but maybe the animals aren't in yet. Zie-Zoo has multiple animals already signed that haven't arrived yet.

Saw a hill mynah in the aviary behind the wolverines (off-show, but visible) as well as a smaller passerine that might or might not have been a male painted bunting. It was just too far away to be sure.

I'm gonna assume not, but was the reptile attic open?

No, the attic was closed, and so was the zoo-college (the cabin with the poison frogs, crocodile lizards and mastigures).
