The park has announced on its website that the Founder of the park and the Zie Zoo foundation Eeg Manders will be retiring from his work on the first of August.
Sadly the young Humboldt penguin died last weekend. The bird was going through it transition from being fed by the parents to eating fish on its own, a period during which penguins are more susceptible to infections. A respiratory infection is suspected as the cause.
Zoo Tábor will receive two young male American black bears from ZieZoo (Chandler and Joy) during autumn. (Tabor lost their last baribal few weeks ago).
As previously mentioned here, two American black bear males will leave ZiE-ZOO for Zoo Tábor in the Czech Republic next week. This is because the current enclosure is too small for all the bears once they reach adulthood. Therefore, a new enclosure for bears will be built in the future.
After the departure of the two males, ZiE-Zoo still has two black bears, a male and a female both born at the zoo. The zoo will no longer breed American black bears, as the species will leave the collection in the future. This is because EAZA encourages to provide more space for endangered bear species for which there is a European breeding programme. The new enclosure will therefore house a different species of bear.
Next week Zie-Zoo's two red river hogs will move to Ouwehands Dierenpark. There exhibit is deemed to no longer be suitable for this species. The space will be used to enlarge the porcupine/mongoose and meerkat exhibits.
