I like Valentines, yes it's over commercial but so is Christmas and Easter etc. What I'm not keen on too much is the amount of waste, both with money and material - £45 for a bunch of roses is ridiculous, but me and AgileGibbon try to buy each other presents that either last, such as a DVD or newts.

I was planning to post on my bah humbug Christmas thread about this. I really dislike the commercialism of these silly days. I just got over Christmas and now I am obliged to buy a gift and a card. I actually enjoyed valentines day more when I was single, because all my single friends (male and female) used to get together for dinner and a drink. When I was not single, I felt the societal pressure of having to live up to what everyone else was doing. I am a great husband every day so what is so special about today?

nanoboy, you seemed to enjoy Christmas quite a lot on your Bah Humbug thread!

You're all just too lonely! I've never minded it but I've never been over fond of it either. Once I left elementary school (where you're obligated to bring cards and candy and such) Valentine's Day has more or less left me alone except for that one year I had a girlfriend.

As the car window sticker says A dog is not just for Christmas
then it must be fair to say A newt is not just for Valentines day

I am guilty of distorting the result, I voted yes when I meant to vote no.

I've just realised, I've done likewise :D

A newt is for life and not just for Valentines :p - couldn't get any this year specifically for Valentines day as the quad of N. crocatus sold before we expressed interest.

However, we have had the 30 axolotl eggs and 20 Alpine newt eggs arrive in the last week or two

I'm glad there are two idiots voting JR. Hope you get Neurergus crocatus, I've never seen them. Better luck next time.
