Does Craig Busch have any qualifications connected with Animal Welfare?

I was told by an old gentleman many years ago that you can have all the qualifications in the world but unless you have actually got the real experience of doing the job then qualifications are just a piece of paper. (I don't mean to upset anyone withthis remark but I have found in life this to be true)

This is very true and that gentleman is a very wise. I see this is the industry I work in, they have a piece of paper but dont know squat about the real world.

No doubt true, but I've also worked with a lot of idiots for whom no amount of experience would ever turn them into anything worthwhile - and doing the same thing badly over and over again actually makes you worse at it, not better.

Also very true but I did not comment on that and this is not the point of the thread.

I would say it has everything to do with the point of the thread as I read it ;)

Qualification should act a process during which pertinent issues are grasped, and the piece of paper should be a starting point not and end in itself.

To answer the question, Mr Busch apparently grew up in Utah and started off as a self-taught animal handler in Hollywood (i.e. the US film industry), but that's probably old news.

If you keep doing things badly who's fault is it, yours for doing it wrong over and over again, or the person above you for allowing you to do it over and over again.

In my opinion (whether it be right or wrong) I believe that both are at fault!! Just as I believe that the staff and volunteers at ZWG are to blame for the "mistreatment" of the cats IF they were mistreated just as much as Craig Busch is...

They have all come forward since he was sacked and said their piece on how bad he was/is... They should have said something before he was sacked and for not doing so they are just as bad if not worse!

I don't agree with declawing animals for the sake of being able to have human interaction, however, the animals clearly trust him that is evident from watching the show - I wouldn't dream of stepping foot in a lion enclosure even if the lions had been declawed and were rasied by humans!!

I am neither for or against Craig Busch as I am not privvy to ALL of the facts and can only access information via in the internet and I don't believe everything I read!!

I know I digressed slightly (apologies for that) but I just wanted to say my piece and now I have!

In my opinion, Craig Busch must have been a good keeper, if he were not able or had displeased them he would have been mauled long ago. He loved his animals and they seemed to love him. As he said animals can be changeable just like we humans get a grump on. I am sorry that Dalu was killed but he died doing a job he was proud of and loved doing, he knew the risks and I would imagime that he would be sorry that Abu lost his life because of it. Craig always seemed to have the knowledge and had a sense of the moods of these cats and if anything has happened since then is because their teacher/mother has been taken away. If these animals has been let out in the wild they would have been dead for a bit of skin or mane. Anyone who watches Lion Man can see the truth. I am disgusted that he has lost his job to money greedy don't care lowlifes.

Not that I particularly want to start this again (although I suppose I didn't), but four questions...

In my opinion, Craig Busch must have been a good keeper, if he were not able or had displeased them he would have been mauled long ago.

1) How do you expect a de-clawed, habituated tiger to maul someone who has dominated them for their whole life?

Craig always seemed to have the knowledge and had a sense of the moods of these cats and if anything has happened since then is because their teacher/mother has been taken away.

2) Have you read up on the tiger's parental habits and when cubs leave their mothers?

Anyone who watches Lion Man can see the truth.

3) Were you aware that television can be "misleading"?!

I am disgusted that he has lost his job to money greedy don't care lowlifes.

And 4) Considering you are preaching about a man who ripped off the ends of animals' fingers just for a bit of cash off animal planet, how can you justifiably describe anyone as a greedy lowlife?
