ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Does Whipsnade keep these species?

According to the usually reliable Zootierlist, there are several species at Whipsnade which I have never seen there, notably Brazilian tapir, great Indian hornbill and raven. Are these species at the zoo, and if so, where? Thanks in advance for any help with this one.

A male Great Indian hornbill is offshow in the bird garden. I've visited annually since 1989 and have never seen Brazilian tapir. I don't know about the ravens.

They have kept Brazilian Tapirs in the past. on the Zootierliste website they are listed as former holding for them. they have a small write up in some of the older whipsnade guide books

Brazilian tapirs are not included in the most recent ZSL Animal Inventory for Whipsnade; this lists animals in the collection as at 1st January 2011. I suppose they could have arrived after 1st January, but I haven’t seen Brazilain tapir at Whipsnade on any of my recent visits; indeed I haven’t seen them there for decades.

As “Zooman1” writes, Whipsnade has certainly exhibited Brazilian tapirs in the past. They feature in some Whipsnade Zoo guidebooks from the 1930s onwards, up to the early 1960s. I also have some old Whipsnade postcards from the 1930s depicting Brazilian tapirs.

Incidentally, both great Indian hornbill and raven are listed in the latest Whipsnade Animal Inventory.

Great Indian hornbill kept off show as said before but I'm sure I spotted a raven in the first enclosure of the closed woodland walk by the snowy owls. Can any body else confirm this?

Yep, they've been there some time.

Just to cap this thread off, Ravens can be seen wild at Whipsnade - they have bred there recently. This is an occurrence unlikely to occur with either Great Indian Hornbills or Brazilian Tapirs...
