Anyone know of any dog friendly European zoos?
Berlin Tierpark and if you are counting the UK (is this for a trip to europe or just in general) Cotswold Wildlife Park.
A fairly large percentage of the German zoos seem to be open for dogs. Rostock also allows dogs, and a load of the smaller zoos do.
In Denmark, Aalborg Zoo, Jyllands Park Zoo, Munkholm Zoo, Hobro Minizoo, Givskud Zoo and Knuthenborg Safaripark allow dogs. Skandinavisk Dyrepark doesn't allow dogs, but has a kennel with food/water/running space where you can place your dog during your visit.

When I visited Zoo Salzburg (Austria) last year I was quite surprised to see someone walking his dog through the zoo. In the United States this is completely forbidden in all zoos unless they are handicap assistance dogs (in which case federal law allows them to go anywhere with the owner).
Not since 2008 when there were issues with dog-owners provoking their dogs to provoke the tigers.....
This is also mostly the case in the UK too, so I also find it quite different when visiting other European zoos.

We have covered this topic in detail before.
To precis - the European BALAI Directive requires ALL mammals arriving onto an Approved premises (zoo or otherwise) from a non-Approved one, to be quarantined for one month.
It does not differentiate species, or use. This is fact! - just check the BALAI regulations and you will see.
It seems that some countries do not apply this law, and that one zoo in the UK has managed to get an exemption to it. Repeated attempts to find out how, have failed...
Not of course that most zoos would want dogs or any other privately owned animal on their premises, anyway!
