These wonderful little birds fascinate me, and although I have seen both, I can not help but wonder how much longer these species will be able to be seen out of their native lands.
A quick scan of Zootierliste seems to show that there are no more dollarbirds in european zoos, and walsrode is the last place to hold White-Breasted Woodswallows.
I know San Diego Zoo a small population of Dollarbirds, a single male in the owens aviary, along with a breeding pair+a chick in the aviaries near the polar bears, and I spotted at least 2 in the new Australian aviaries. There is also a decent sized flock of White-Breasted Woodswallows in the owens aviary, and a couple of individuals in the Australian aviaries, but I am not sure if they are breeding them.
Does anyone else know about the captive populations of these birds ? It would be such a shame to loose them.
