A recent camera trap survey in Israel found four golden jackals with domestic-like traits - white markings, an upturned tail, and long, thick fur. A careful study of jackals in the area, including a culled jackal with heavy white markings, showed that these animals are definitely not domestic hybrids of any sort and naturally came about these traits (vs what's been seen in the fox domestication projects, where dog-like traits start to appear as animals are chosen based on pet qualities).
