On Jan. 8 female Southern white rhinoceros Shakina gave birth to a healthy male calf
.
I score both breeding successes evenly.2 nice recent breeding-results at Dortmund :
- 2 Black vulture eggs were placed in the incubator because the parent-birds had already broken several eggs in the past and both chicks hatched and are now raised by hand.
- On Oct. 27 last year the female Chiapas giant musk turtle laid a clutch of 4 eggs. 164 days later - = last week - one young hatched.
Just I am equally well chuffed with 2 black vulture chicks: That really does not happen very often!
I wonder whether the Dortmund pair has had any breeding success in the past. Cannot recall this ... BTW: also if and when both chicks pull through a great asset for Vulture Foundation and Rewilding.
