The gibbons have had a baby, born approximately a month ago. The keepers are currently unsure of the sex I believe. The news will be published officially once baby is a bit older and they are confident all is well as unfortunately the gibbon couple have had a stillborn and a baby pass away previously. It’s adorable and both parents seem really involved! Really exciting time! I hope baby and mum remain healthy and well

Other 2023 News:

On July 10th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (1.0) Nubian giraffe named Zabuni to the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in Kent.

We're delighted to announce the newest addition to our tower of giraffes, Zabuni! 4-year-old male Zabuni arrived at Port Lympne Reserve on Wednesday... | By Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve | Facebook

On September 25th, it was announced that the zoo transferred another (1.0) Nubian giraffe named Sifa to the Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park in Scotland.

Just a bit annoying given that Rothschildt's giraffe remains a valid subspecies of the northern giraffe..

I visited the zoo this morning - was quite cold and frosty with few visitors around, but I enjoyed my visit nonetheless. I got to speak with a couple of keepers regarding the plans for this year, with the following information of interest.
  • Dublin will apparently be receiving Aung Bo from Chester as their new bull elephant in the spring. I find this intriguing, as Upali (Dublin's previous bull for those unfamiliar) also came from Chester nearly 12 years ago.
  • A new male Asian lion will also be coming this year from Edinburgh (Kushanu, I'm guessing?)
  • I also heard that they were planning to move the Brazilian tapirs to Belfast Zoo so that the enclosure could be redeveloped into the proposed Irish wildlife exhibit. This surprised me, as I initially thought Belfast were going to go back into Malayan tapirs, which I was hoping would be the case (not that there's anything wrong with the Brazilians, it's just that they're far more common in Europe than the Malayans).
In other news, the enclosure swap between the lions and the tigers still hasn't occurred, although part of the tigers' viewing area was visible again as the barrier was moved further in towards it. The swap might be happening soon.

Do Dublin still have mangabeys mixed with the gorillas? If not, when did this stop and what was the reasoning?

Several issues I believe. The mangabeys were transferred to secret valley wildlife park.
That is too bad really. The species were previously mapped on an island next to the gorillas at Dublin Zoo.

Never heard of that place ...Secret Valley Wildlife Park. Care to elaborate what facility this is?!!!

The zoo kept two species of mangabey, white collared on the island near the gorillas/chimps which still remain and a bachelor group of cherry-crowned mixed with the gorillas which are the ones I believe have left.

I didn't see this if reported up thread, but I believe the painted dogs have left due to their enclosure being empty and their also not being listed on the website.

I see. May just be temporary, as the zoo's website still says they support Painted Dog Conservation, and it would be a shame for the zoo to lose a species that's as endangered as the painted dog.

It really will be a shame to lose the dogs.

It would be a shame to see them go, but they are doing quite well in captivity. But given Dublin's collection I'm not sure if they are going permanently there would be anything more exciting to replace them from the perspective of a zoochatter.

I've just remembered they also keep grey wolf and dhole. Although I am a big fan of AWD, from a collection perspective it does seems like they're well covered in that area.
