Dublin Zoo Dublin zoo news

Dublin Zoo was closed this week due to the visit of the British Queen; being close to the President's residence access was restricted for security reasons.

My question above is still unanswered - does really no one knows if construction work for the elephant bull barn has started? I would really appreciate if someone could help!! Thanks!

Very close call ...

Hope she will become a productive member of the pure Dublin group.
How many now at the zoo?

That's great news and impressive given the size of the local population. I would suggest that a combination of being the only major zoo in the country, a number of recent major developments and it being featured in a TV show all have a role to play in this. There are probably lots of people making local outings rather than holidaying overseas too.

Asiatic Lions!

Dublin Zoo will get the long expected Asiatic Lions!

Some major reconstructions are starting now - Sumatran Tigers were temporarily moved to the Arctic Fox enclosure and that all area from the entrance gate to the end of the big cat enclosures will be rebuilt. (The fox is alive and well, just off exhibit for now.)

The old African Lioness is still alive, but I was told that it won´t be an issue. (Her enclosure is pretty far and completely separated, so I don´t see any problems either.)

The reconstruction works will take about 3 month.

Interesting too hear- thank you.

She's the oldest female in the UK at 24 years old, interesting to hear also about the Sumatran switch couldn't they have not moved them (How's the pair?) to the Amur exhibit?
