A 10-year-old male Sulawesi crested macaque, called Tambo, has left Dudley for London Zoo.
Tambo joined DZC in 2017.
This is the same animal that was recently living in the new enclosure next to the main chimpanzee outdoor viewing area, which now contains the zoo's two black howler monkeys that recently moved from the right-hand enclosure of the triple Tecton complex. The Tecton enclosure is currently being remodelled for a new species that the zoo is yet to reveal.

Given the current state of the Metro in the West Midlands then I think this station may be one big folly...
I didn't know about this, but it sounds like they've been sold some duff trams. Hopefully, after the manufacturer have replaced the panels, the service should be back up and running in a few months.
However, the main thing is that, once completed, the new station should improve access to the zoo and potentially help increase visitor numbers.
My school closed early for the weekend so I thought that there was no better way to spend my free Friday that with a trip to Dudley zoo.
A few things I saw today:
.The new enclosure for the unannounced species appears to be progressing really well with a huge wooden climbing frame and a pool. Still no official confirmation of the species but it doesn't look like it's going to be anything too small.
.I only saw Joao, the male tiger, today. He was very active. No sign of Daseep, the female, at all on my 2 visits to the tiger enclosure.
.There was a worrying sign on the giraffe enclosure stating that one of them are currently under veterinary care. I didn't ask which giraffe it was but it could potentially be age-related issues for 21 year old male Kubwa. I've grown very attached to the giraffe family at Dudley so I'm really hoping for the best with whatever the issue is.
.I also only saw one tapir. I'm unsure whether it was the male or the female as I didn't get a good look.
.The anteater pup 'Gizmo' was a real treat to see. Mum Lyra was very active with Gizmo tightly clinging on to her back. Gizmo and Lyra were both interacting with the male, Bubbles, between the fence.
.The Nile monitors were no longer in the enclosure next to the dwarf crocodiles. Instead there were turtles and terrapins.
.I was hesitant to go visit 'Penguin Beach' after the recent outbreak. I saw 2 lying next to each other on the sand to the right hand side and 1 swimming in the pool. I was a bit surprised by the absence of any signage explaining the situation but I may have just not seen it. I'd understand why the zoo may not want to draw too much attention to what's happened.
.The new orangutan enclosure looks brilliant so far. While it's not the most visually appealing enclosure I'm sure that the orangs aren't going to have any complaints. Djimat, Jazz and Sprout were all together in the larger part of the existing enclosure and Benji was in the smaller area as usual. The closest viewviewing area to the orangs was blocked off. The closest you can get to them outside is either along the right side of the enclosure or on the main path with the gibbons. I'm assuming that this is to minimise the stress on the orangs with the building work and the introduction of Djimat.
.The howler monkeys both seemed very content in the former macaque enclosure next to the chimps.
. In the farm barn there appeared to be a couple of empty enclosures and the bearded dragon enclosure was covered up as the beardie is under veterinary care.
Overall it was a very pleasant, sunny, quiet day. I have a few photos which I'll upload to the gallery soon.

sadly 4 is the most penguins i have seen at penguin bay
A female green aracari is now on show.
It arrived at DZC at the end of last year, but has only recently moved into the Queen Mary aviary to join the resident scarlet ibis, mandarin ducks, ringed teals and puna ibis.

Surprised and slightly sad to see whipsnade move one of the wolverines but one has been separated out for a while and in the enclosure at the back so am guessing that’s her. Hope she enjoys her new home!
I hope to take my nephew next weekend 9/4/22.

The only other time I've seen a wolverine was at Edinburgh Zoo back when they used to keep them, so I'm looking forward to seeing Helga during my upcoming visit to Dudley this Summer!And the new species going in the former howler monkey enclosure is....*drum roll*.... a wolverine!

Same. I have only seen Wolverine one other time and that was when I went to Cotswold WP a few months back after my birthday.
I will definitely have to visit Dudley zoo again in the summer.
0.0.24 Macleay's spectre stick insects (Extatosoma tiaratum) have hatched. They can be found in the farm barn.

The new Changing Places facility (toilets with specialist equipment for people with complex needs and disabilities) will be located adjacent to the current toilet block near the exit of the lorikeet walkthrough. Work will begin in the Autumn.
