Dudley Zoo Update 2012

A friend visited today and said the indoor enclosure was still off limits with the new windows blocked out she wondered wnat was going on

Have had photographs sent to my flickr group to upload will do thursday as have over 2400 photographs to upload from camera as haven't done so for quite a while now

Again more news regarding Tigers (Might not be that exciting! :)) The info below was given by the Zoo's Facebook page today...

Exciting news... beauties Tschuna and Daseep are going to star on their own webcam! It should be up and running in the next few days so watch this space!

Just got back from the zoo and all I can say is wow! Only 3 no-shows, bush dog, Geoffroys cat and (surprise, surprise) the red squirrels! :p Everything else was extremely active, the snow leopards were particularly energetic and seemed quite content together.
The tigers are now on-show and look absolutely stunning, they spent most of the day resting but were more playful towards the end of the day. It'll be a shame to lose the Amur as she is particularly beautiful! :D
I don't know if it's been mentioned on here but there are 2 baby macaques in the paddock, if it's been mentioned then I apologise! ;)

I believe that she was born at Dudley, and then went to Glasgow and returned to Dudley on Glasgows closure.

Thanks.

One of the other members said she was either 34 or 36. The staff couldn't remember, I hope she's still there when I visit (Hopefully) in October/November.

I'm guessing she was born in the old bear ravine then, as the Carnivore pits didn't house black bears until the construction of the previous lion enclosure (now holding wild dogs) in the 90s. I think two 'problem bears' were sent to Glasgow sometime in that decade due to fighting at Dudley. I assume the existing Dudley animals died out and there was a gap before 2003 when Glasgow closed and the two females returned.

Just looked through some old notes from many years ago and 2 bears were sent to Scotland in 1992 (so I will take that as Glasgow).
If my notes are correct then Inca will be 39 shortly all I have in my notes for late 1991 is that 2 female Kojak bears have been seperated from the rest due to a falling out with another female and will be moved early 1992 destination unknown.

EDIT - will be visiting Wed if anyone wants any questions asked let me know, Jordan will be asking about lynx names for you.

When you say shortly do you know when she was born?

Will check on Wednesday for you I know last year they said about this time that she would be 38 but didn't get the date

Now there's an image:D, I'd love to see a barber trying to keep them still as he/she shaved their heads.

Another spelling error plus I was looking at the wrong species name I must say sorry for wrong species name I think they are also know as Himalayan Black Bears but I do have a sign on the old Bear Ravine Tecton Enclosure saying Kaidak Bears which I think may be brown bears and not black

Think you are trying to type Kodiak Bear!!

I visited yesterday for the first time, and really liked it, Some fantastic enclosures, although the Reptile House could do with pulling down. Highlights for me,The Tectons the young Tigers, the Hunting Dogs and their enclosure, the outdoor Chimp area and the talkative Raven.
