Dudley Zoo Update 2012

God I'm envious now, the only animal I have NEVER seen at Dudley, despite many visits! I've even had more success with the squirrels than the cat.

Granted I've only been there twice, but in my experience the key is to spend the day going around the zoo, so that by one or two hours before closing time you've seen everything and can spare a little longer than usual in front of the enclosure, as he seems to be very active from about 3pm onward, going into his offshow quarters and back out again very regularly - this of course means you can easily miss him if you only spend a minute or two looking.

Downside is, he generally moves so fast and the mesh of his enclosure is so fine that it is extremely hard to get a photo of him even when he is visible!

Just to make you a bit jealous here's Bart Taken last year as this years visits have only been flying visits hoping to go and have a full day at the zoo towards the middle of May.

@TLDave, i've tried your technique, dragged the missus halfway accross the zoo to spend our last 20 minutes looking at an empty enclosure. One of the keepers even joined us in the hope of luring hum out, no joy! :(
@adrian, cheers for that, makes me feel so much better! :p

A new male reindeer has joined the herd.

The four year-old, named Boy, has transferred to DZG from Dartmoor Zoological Park, in Devon, and is settling in with our two other males.

He's also busy making friends with our seven females, and keepers are hopeful we will soon hear the pitter patter of tiny hooves.

Just a quick note here as I don't visit like I used to due to work they have just released a photograph of little Eve the new Brazillian Tapir she is 2 weeks old.
That enclosure is starting to look a little full with the new Capybara babies (3) as well as the 5 tapirs in thier a good job they moved the Mara to the old bush dog enclosure.
Also they have moved 3 male Parma Wallabies into the same enclosure.

Still only one Lynx but hopeful of a pair arriving shortly.

In the Avairies by the Barbary Sheep they now have a Voilet Turaco and as of my last visit the newly born Gibbon is doing really well.

Just found out through Twitter that they have a 2 week old Yellow Breasted Capuchin youngster they haven't named it yet as they don't know what sex the youngster is

Visit 23rd July

Visited yesterday and saw many of the new arrivals - barbary sheep, yellow breasted capuchin, capybara and a fleeting glimpse of one of the young red squirrels. Eve, the baby tapir, was not out in the enclosure though despite several visits.:(

The Geoffroy's cat was very active and spent some time snoozing on the shelf at the top left hand corner of the cage. Didn't see the lynx out at all - just a couple of ear tufts peeping above the window sill of the indoor enclosure.

The snow leopards were asleep together on one of the top platforms for most of the morning - a couple of thick, furry tails hanging down being the only evidence of their presence. They were more active in the afternoon.

Work on the chair lift is progressing well but looked as though there was still a bit to do so not sure if it will be ready for the end of July.

@Jordan-Jaguar97 I was told recently that this has been put on hold until Dudley have a male for Daseep (hopefully very shortly)

Thank you. I know the plan was that the pair to arrive and then when they both mature the female Amur would leave and a new male Sumatran would arrive.

CAPUCHIN –
A shock was waiting for me as until today there had been rumours that there was one youngster at the zoo and in fact there are 2 the youngest was born less than a month ago.

HOWLER –

I did say earlier this year that the Howler female was pregnant and was then told by someone on here I didn’t know what I was talking about well today I can confirm they have a youngster at the zoo (must have been magic or maybe a stork dropped it off).

LYNX –

Chleo was not in the enclosure but there were 2 new arrivals a female from Zoo Veszprem in Hungry and a male from Salzburg Zoo in Austria both arrived on 27th July again must have been magic as I was told again I didn’t know what I was on about.

I did get other information but due to the way things have gone will noy be updating any of the information gained.

I must say a big thank you to the person on here who made it there business to e-mail my boss personally and tell him what I had been saying on here and they added a few thing that I have never said the out come of a meeting between me and my boss is that if I continue to contribute to this site then he will have to seriously consider my current position of employment so I have decided this will be my last contribution to this site for the unforeseen future.

I have enjoyed being part of what is (most of the time) a great forum but would like to leave on a high note.

The chairlift looks great and was being tested this morning

Goodbye.

Jordan,

Don't be fooled by him, he lives in 'Adrian World' where strange things happen that don't happen to other people. I believe he is genuinely lovely chap, however he cannot help himself from making stories up, private collections of great apes and rare coastal birds, twin brothers or half brothers. Probably even the fact he works at a private collection is a slouch on the truth.
Anyhow, he will be back, he loves it here really.

PS- You missed me off that list for Knowsley!! :D
