Dudley Zoo Update 2012

Jordan,

Don't be fooled by him, he lives in 'Adrian World' where strange things happen that don't happen to other people. I believe he is genuinely lovely chap, however he cannot help himself from making stories up, private collections of great apes and rare coastal birds, twin brothers or half brothers. Probably even the fact he works at a private collection is a slouch on the truth.
Anyhow, he will be back, he loves it here really.

PS- You missed me off that list for Knowsley!! :D

I did say I wasn't being rude by not mentioning other members updates! Yes you are another excellent updater! :D

European Lynx.

CAPUCHIN –
A shock was waiting for me as until today there had been rumours that there was one youngster at the zoo and in fact there are 2 the youngest was born less than a month ago.

HOWLER –

I did say earlier this year that the Howler female was pregnant and was then told by someone on here I didn’t know what I was talking about well today I can confirm they have a youngster at the zoo (must have been magic or maybe a stork dropped it off).

LYNX –

Chleo was not in the enclosure but there were 2 new arrivals a female from Zoo Veszprem in Hungry and a male from Salzburg Zoo in Austria both arrived on 27th July again must have been magic as I was told again I didn’t know what I was on about.

I did get other information but due to the way things have gone will noy be updating any of the information gained.

I must say a big thank you to the person on here who made it there business to e-mail my boss personally and tell him what I had been saying on here and they added a few thing that I have never said the out come of a meeting between me and my boss is that if I continue to contribute to this site then he will have to seriously consider my current position of employment so I have decided this will be my last contribution to this site for the unforeseen future.

I have enjoyed being part of what is (most of the time) a great forum but would like to leave on a high note.

The chairlift looks great and was being tested this morning

Goodbye.

European Lynx breeding has certainly risen within the last two/three years. Whipsnade look to have a good breeding pair on their hands, breeding 2.3 in two separate litters. HWP's only arrived in May (?) and they have bred them already, very successful. Does anybody know how old Dudley's new pair are?

Orangutans.

I was wondering recently how Dudley display their Orangutans. I know that 'Sprout' and 'Jazz' are together as the youngster ('Sprout') is only a year old. Are the old pair 'Benjamin' and 'Azimat' kept together? I presume that 'Jurong' is kept separate from 'Jazz' and 'Sprout'. If they are kept all separate then this is very promising news, I prefer to see them kept separately as it shows them how they should be properly kept (As they are in the wild).

That's a pretty crappy thing to do, if it's true (let's face it there has been the odd intersection between your posts and untruths in the past). If it is true that means the alleged "villain" of the piece is aware of the collection you supposedly work for and maybe they can step forward and confirm the truth (or not) surrounding some of your "private collection claims". If they're shy they can PM me and in the interests of justice (given I don't know the full facts) I'll report back to the forum on the facts re alleged private collections but not their identity. Again, if it's true.

All that aside your updates on Dudley, which were as accurate as these things can be, were always good and will be missed.

Good look in the future and sorting everything out.

The Carpathian lynx at Port Lympne have bred recently, too.

I don't know their ages but I did overhear Dudley's CEO telling a visitor earlier in the year that they were hoping to obtain a breeding pair of Lynx from Hungary. I'm planning to visit in a couple of weeks time so will try and find out then if no-one has posted before.

Does anyone know whether Azimat is still there? She was not mentioned on the signage when I visited in July and is not listed on Dudley's adoption list. Also, the annual census which Adrian referred to at the start of this post only listed 4 orangs....

Azimat was the second (?) oldest female Bornean Orangutan in the UK with Chester's 'Martha' being the eldest. I wouldn't be surprised if she had died given her age. Azimat spent some time at Blackpool and one of their current females 'Victoria' is one of her offspring. Unfortunately she was hand-reared and moved to ZSL London for a while before moving back to Blackpool.

lol, leaving on a high-note means making crap up? I'm sure you'll still be here with one of your other accounts :)

Surely you're not using text speak on the forum? I never thought the day would come! ;)
indeed I am, but I can honestly say that "lol" is the only text-speak I use when typing (as far as I can recall). I use "lol" quite often actually, I don't know why!! I sometimes use "btw" for "by the way" but not too often and I don't think that counts as text-speak anyway. I can't recall ever using abbreviations such as IIRC or whatever the other ones are. And if you ever see me posting words like "gr8" or "da" (instead of "the") then you have my permission to fly over to New Zealand and kick me in the testicles.

I can honestly say that this is the first instance I've ever seen of you typing lol, but then again I'm not nanoboy and I haven't read every post you've typed... :p
I agree that lol is acceptable and maybe IIRC but "btw" is just being lazy, not as much as the other two examples though. You're only saving 1 or 2 letters so how much quicker is it really? :D
And I'll pass on kicking you in the testicles, the shame of using those abreviations should hurt you far more than any kick in the balls! LOL
:p

you shouldn't have mentioned nanoboy. Next time he checks my list of recent posts he'll see his name mentioned and come over here, and then you'll have to put up with him causing trouble on the UK forum! :p

I feel like I use "lol" a lot. Maybe I don't after all. In terms of internet posts I think all forms of abbreviations are acceptable so long as they are generally understood. But typing whole sentences as if one were texting is just silly. On another forum I used to be on there was one particular member who would post things that were well-nigh incomprehensible. If they were on Zoochat it would be something like "hey guyz, iz goin 2 da zoo 2mro wot shd i lk 4". In a short phrase such as that it can be seen that the question could be translated as "hello fellow Zoochatters, I am visiting my local zoological facility tomorrow. Is there anything of particular interest that it could be recommended I keep a eye out for?" but when you have post after post of it you end up not even bothering to try and read it.

I can't even cope with people who text like that, what's wrong with spelling whole words?
It does not save time typing like that because the person reading has to translate it and sometimes that isn't easy! :p

I'll use text speak occasionally on those rare occasions I send a text, as with a text you're limited to so many characters [well, my last phone limited me to 160 characters anyway] - that's not many, so saving just one or two characters on a few words here and there means I can finish my text :p

I remember the days of trying to squeeze as much as possible in to one page to save credit but now I have unlmited texts I'm free to waffle on as much as I like! :)

The last time some of us text we still had an old Nokia [you know, the ones that never died] - I had mine so long it did actually die! It was only a couple of months ago :p

I remember them, I think I've still got one upstairs in a shoe box! (Not dead. :p)
Now I see your point about text speak, they were a right pain in the a*se for space! :)

They were, and because I never topped up I lost my free texts offer :p

Text speak is not really acceptable on a forum like this though, when I could type as much as I wanted :p

p.s. - I think maybe we should get back to Dudley news :D
