Dudley Zoo Update 2012

It'll be a couple of weeks before I go again but I live in hope that she will still have stripes when I eventually see her!! On my next visit, I'm tempted to camp outside the tapir enclosure until she appears!

Great photo of the lynx.

I was lucky, she was in the house with 3 other tapirs and 8 capy's, a lovely sight. I tried to get a photo but the glass made it impossible to do so sorry.

On my third attempt to see the new lynx, I not only saw both very well, but one of them decided it wanted to eat us. I got a short video, here, but it basically pounced on us constantly for 10 minutes, a bit weird after how shy it's been every other time I've been there!
I've put a pic of it in the gallery too.
(New micropigs are also great!)

Visit 14th November

A really enjoyable day at Dudley today - the Zoo was fairly quiet and at long last I saw Eve:D I lost count of the number of times I visited the tapir enclosure but eventually my patience was rewarded.

I also had fantastic views of all 3 red pandas and both the Carpathian lynxes, who appear to have overcome their initial shyness and were out in the enclosure whenever I passed by.

All the signage inside the reptile house has been removed - not sure why as I couldn't find anyone to ask; I wondered if they were planning to repaint it.

The baby micropigs are really cute.

Great to hear the Carpathians have settled in well :)

Visit on 17th December

Zoo was fairly quiet today, as you might expect on a weekday so close to Christmas.

Inca (Asiatic black bear) was only just visible - she has dug herself a nice deep hole in the bark mulch right in front of the steps as you go down to the enclosure so you have to crane your neck to see her.

The tigers were quite playful - I would have got a lovely picture of them both on their hind legs boxing with each other if there hadn't been a strand of the electric fencing in the way! I might have to have a play with a photo editing program and see if I can erase it.

The snow leopards were asleep all morning but quite feisty in the afternoon - leaping round the enclosure with the occasional snarl and tufts of fur flying.

The Carpathian lynx were both out as was Chloe, the European lynx, who was more active than I've seen her in a while.

Jasper, the baby red panda, was very active. Eve, the baby tapir, was also out and about - her stripes have already faded from her front legs although they are still visible on her hind legs. All the howler monkeys, including baby Aria, were in their outdoor enclosure which was good to see. The micro piglets have doubled in size since my last visit a month ago.

The reptile house was closed 'for essential maintenance' - a new, glazed porch has been built on the front of it.
