Dudley Zoological Gardens Dudley Zoological Gardens in 2010

Spoke to someone who's been to the zoo today 12/10/10 and they said Sarah was walking around in her enclosure to the back where the badgers walk
They also said the date has not been set for the arrival of the Snow Leopard they are still hoping it will be the end of the month
The macaques that arrived the other day arrived from Israel and they look very well settled now also they have moved the Toco Toucan this is for the Very Old enclosure to be refurbished.
Panda Cub out and about regular now in the enclosure.

Good to hear about the Red Panda cub at Dudley, Yogi. Im hoping to visit in two weeks so hope baby Red will be out then :) I cant wait to see him!! :)

The badger walk along the back of Sarahs enclosure just outside but she can smell them.
The Badgers have made a set in the old Parma Wallaby enclosure by the old elephant house.

Thanks, Adrian. I saw the notice about the badgers in the old Wallaby enclosure on my last visit. I'm told Nanga, the new snow leopard, has arrived at Dudley and is now in quarantine. Any idea where she is housed to do her quarantine?

No but will find out next week as I will be making my first visit in 6 weeks
will let you know after my visit

Kiang (not your fault and thank you for posting the info)

This is again very out dated news as normal for the local papers around here
this was taken from my updates of 14 April 2010 as I keep an update scroll on my computer

These are new to the Monkey Tails house and replace the meerkats that have left for new pastures. The species of Tortoise that has moved in is African Spurred Tortoise

And on the 7th may 2010 the following
The keepers have decided to paint mark the shells of the tortoises so as to be able to ID the tortoises.
Here are the colour markings and names

PAINT MARK COLOUR NAME

PURPLE PERCY

YELLOW LARRY

GREEN GEORGE

BLACK BERT

BLUE ERNIE

RED RUFUS

Any recent updates the big cats?

Where is the male snow leopard coming from? (I know he isn't coming until after christmas)

How's Sarah the Tiger and are there any plans to find her some company anytime soon?

Thanks

Just got back as weather to cold for me let alone some of the animals.
Sarah is staying inside at present as the weather is to cold for her as she is elderley there are no plans to bring n any company for her but there are plans in place to have a new breeding pair once the great Sarah as passed on, the same goes for the Black Bear Inca a breeding pair will be brought in once she as passed on

There have been some new arrivals since my last visit 2 different species of pheasant have been brought in (picture in gallery) I don't know what species they are

There are also 2 new common Rhea this now makes 3 in the small enclosure but was told they now intend to open up the small enclosure between the Barrausa enclosure and the Rhea enclosures.

I could not see any Sacred Ibis which is unusual as there were quite a few in the avairy.

A new birth in the Primate house another Goeldi's monkey they've done well this year with births in the primate house.

Unsure were the male snow leopard is coming from but he is expected to arrive after christmas as you have stated

Nanga the female snow leopard was out in the enclosure this morning and looking very much at home (pictures in gallery)

The vet was at the Orangutan House this morning unsure what for but the keepers didn't look to upset but they would say anything about the visit

Asianic Lions Looking really good for the possible breeding in the next year as both females now responding to Itar's advances.

Not much to report on the Giraffes but there could be new arrivals early next year but they wouldn't expand on it.

Do you know if they hope to stick with Asian Black Bears? Or will they be switching to something more 'fashionable'? (Sun/Spectacled?)

Spectacle bears have been mentioned but that could be for another enclosure down by were the farm is at the moment as they want to keep Asian Black Bears

Thanks for that (and indeed the other updates). Would certainly like to see a multi-bear situation back at Dudley!

The Eastern Asia section including western Russia concentrates on the ssp. ussuricus. Western European zoos concentrate on other U. thibetanus ssp. (some being hop-scotch).

Would they now go for a particular ssp. of Ursus thibetanus?

Could anyone help with where the new arrivals have come from they are

Common Rhea x 2
Vietnamese Pheasants x 1 pair
Elliotts Pheasant x 1 pair

I would also like to know where the Sacred Ibis have moved to

Many thanks in advance

Will be spending all day at the zoo from 10am until late in the afternoon next Tuesday 7th December so if there are any questions or photographs you would like then let me know also if you fancy coming along for the day I will be wearing a white checked coat with a green camera bag if you would like to chat.

Can't go to Dudley on Tuesday. I'll be at work. On my last visit there were meerkats in the mongoose enclosure. So where were te mongoose? It would also be good to have an update onthe wonderful Sarah.
