Zoo Duisburg Duisburg Zoo news

Given the origin, wouldn't the powerful voice be speaking an indigenous language like Tupi-Guarani , Warao , Kariña or Arawak or perhaps the more widely / commonly spoken Spanish or Portuguese ?

Well I suppose after so long in the country he would be fluent in German too and as a cosmic phenomenon / spectre it would make sense that the spectre and his premonition was linguistically understood.

The afterlife has a universal translator, I thought this was common knowledge? SMH

A tamandua baby has been born on 9th of April, and a ring-tailed lemur on the 13th. Duisburg doesn't have an English site, so I can't read much of the other information. Germans, feel free to elaborate

I have a question: We know that the animal houses and dolphinarium are closed, but there is no information about Rio Negro, the aquarium or the aquatorium. Does anyone know if these are open or not?

Can we maybe have a list of all the locations that are closed?

@Mr Gharial I don't know if you use facebook, but I find the German zoo news on their individual facebook pages, as it will usually have an English translation (albeit a little confusing or amusing at times).
On March 26th it reported that from tomorrow the fish tank

and the other animal houses will be closed,
so I assume all indoor areas are closed. They also require a negative covid test from visitors by the looks of things.

A shame the aquarium will be closed, I was really looking forward to seeing the giant salamanders. I didn't check their facebook, do you maybe have a link?

I've sent them a message asking about the ape house and rio negro, I'll update you if I hear back from them

Duisburg will close again on Monday... but in general, all houses (Rio Negro, Ape House, Carnivore House, Koala House, Dolphinarium, Giraffe and Elephant House) have been closed since reopening, though the aquarium had been open for a while. Rio Negor and the Dolphinarium have been closed for over a year now, and the Ape house only opened in parts last year. However, the lemur island has reopened.

Well, that's a shame. There go my plans for this vacation

Zoo Duisburg has also answered, and all indoor enclosures are indeed closed

Sadly 3-year old Northern koala (Phascolarctos cinereus cinereus) Toorie was euthanized. He had started to eat less than usual for a few days in a row. Ultrasound and CT scans showed that something was wrong near his stomach. During the operation it became clear that Toorie had an inoperable tumor and that there was no chance of a cure. Toorie was born in Edinburgh and arrived at Duisburg in 2018, he should have eventually taken over Irwin's role as breeding male in Zoo Duisburg.

Last Wednesday male Southern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum) Kifaru was send to Zoosafari Fasanolandia (Italy). With the departure of Kifaru comes an end to the keeping of Southern white rhinos in Duisburg, the zoo kept them since 1968 (53 years) according to ZTL. The former rhino enclosure will be merged with the zebra enclosure.

Hm, I wonder if they could put some other species in with the zebras. While the rhino exhibit was too small in my opinion, the zebra exhibit is pretty big already and doesn't really seem to need expansion. I remember it as even bigger than the giraffe and elephant exhibits.

The entire exhibit - a relict concreted over building and exclosure - could well do with a complete face-lift. Agreed on adding a species of hoof stock to spice things up.

Currently, koala Yiribana has a young for the first time in six years! The young one is male, and his father is Tinarroo who came from Leipzig last year. The little one is currently 225 days old and has recently started coming out of the pouch.
