Duisburg Zoo is planning to open a new Outback aviary with yellow-footed rock wallabies and Australian birds in 2021 (at the site of the former pheasantry). The project is financed by the zoo's support association (Förderverein).

They have been demolished in 2017 and this aviary has been under construction for 3 years already....

After an eleven year break, meerkats have been born in Duisburg! So far 1 pup has been seen outside of the burrow.

At the end of September Atlantic bottlenose dolphin Delphi (28 years) gave birth to a female! Delphi is an experienced mother who has succesfully raised three young animals in the past. Her two daughters still live in Duisburg,Dörte (2011) and Debbie (2015).

New species at Duisburg and from coming Friday the only keeper of the species in Europe :
Betta rubra, a mouth-brooding fighting fish from Sumatra which is threatened and kept by a few privat aquarists. Its with those privat breeders that Duisburg now has become part of the breeding-programm for this species.

On Nov. 12 a Pygmy hippo was born at Duisburg .

Amazon River Dolphin...only one in a zoo anywhere.

Very sad indeed. Baby was a wonderful animal to see and a real icon for Zoo Duisburg.
