Shocking dust storms in Sydney and across NSW today (into Qld as well I think). Can't be good for the animals at the zoos.

Some of my photos from this morning:

Sydney 7am this morning - you can barely see the Ch7 TV tower around 400m away

Warringah freeway @ Willoughby Rd overpass - 7am Sydney

Sydney Harbour Bridge from Blues Point, 7:30am this morning

Very bad here in Brisbane today Sim, It's been along time since I have seen it like this

I did see a photo of Bondi Beach turned completley orange. I've never experienced or seen photos of it this bad though.

I heard on the radio this morning that some people were saying they haven't seen it this bad since the 1940's.

mstickmanp - this built up overnight as the strong westerly winds swept across the state, stripping the top-soil off all the drought-stricken farms in the west of NSW.

I'm currently in Bourke, but when the duststorm hit I was in Gundabooka National Park 80kms away. The dust was so bad it caused my car to think there was a problem with the engine, and I had warning messages all the way back to Bourke.

Check out this video from Broken Hill, taken a few hours earlier.

I think the media has over-reported this, its just dust.

Yes, but a dust storm of this size and severity is pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime event.

The last big storm like this was back in the 40's and that was nothing compared to what happened the other day apparently.

here in Melbourne, for the last few days we've had a few storms. Been one of the wettest septembers in a while.
