First of all, this is great news!
First Asian golden cats imported by Tierpark Berlin (should have been done together with other zoos) and now Aardwolves. I must be dreaming!

Recent ultrasound examination has confirmed that Aardvark (Orycteropus afer) Skyla is pregnant.

A female grey hornbill escaped yesterday morning from the large walk-through aviary and already left the zoo grounds. The zoo asks locals living at Dvur Kralove town to keep open eyes and call in case they see her anywhere.

A single chick of African pygmy falcon (Polihierax semitorquatus) hatched and is being hand-reared. It´s on show in the bird nursery. The adult pair is kept off-show.

And to close the story of escaped grey hornbill. Thanks to locals that dutifuly announced all sightings of the bird at their gardens, she could be traced and trapped by zoo staff circa 2 days after her escape.

I would mention that the fact Prague was the only holder recently (before Dvur got their group) is because Prague zoo contacted all holders of the species 2 years ago in order to collect all remaining animals in one place and provoke more breeding. To save the species for European collections. They obliged. The plan bore its fruits, 16 babies hatched last year and alread 17 in first half-year 2023. Dvur is hopefuly just the first of new holders.

The zoo has mentioned in recent text two new bird species (acquired sometime this year) it keeps in walk-through hall in the bird house.

Black heron (Egretta ardesiaca) - the only ones in Europe
Orange-breasted waxbill (Amandava subflava) - the only ones publicly displayed in Czechia acording to ZTL

Interesting - I saw those herons a few weeks ago but took them to be dark-morph Reef Egret!
 
Today I finally saw aardwolf. It was sleeping the whole time. Still better result than on previous visit, yay! Was weird seeing such gracile animal in exhibit that used to hold breeding Amur tigers.

The large walkthrough aviary (lesser flamingo & Co) is currently closed for visitors - but birds use it as usual. They do some landscaping inside. Otherwise I have no interesting news.

I failed to see the last red-necked gazelle. Is it still alive?

Thank you, so all of these species will still be off-show in April? Also, are the goliath heron on-show?
