The group had regular births (1-2's each season), but did not increase in number. The last males were transferred out to Zoo Planckendael.
 
Thank you Jana and Kifaru Bwana ... it is really sad to hear it. I hope the group in Planckendael is not in a such situation.
 
Could i possibly have an update on satu the orangutan?
Has she had any babies yet?

There are no ground-beaking news on Satu. She currently lives with Besar (5) in the old ape house. She has no baby yet. Elmar (breeding male) and Zaneta (female) were moved into the new enclosure in bird house and everybody hopes they will breed once more, when they are alone now. Satu and Besar should move to join them, probably later this year.

Could Satu be moving back to Twycross (or maybe another zoo) when Dvur Kralove leaves the EAZA in June?

That´s a good question, but I don´t know. It will depend solely on the decision of Twycross, who is still the owner of Satu.
 
Orangs Satu and Besar haven´t been moved to the new exhibit with Elmar and Zaneta yet.

A female black rhino was born this week to Jola and Mweru. It´s the first surviving calf for bull Mweru, who was imported from Port Lympne 9 years ago.

Their flamingo colony had another bad breeding year, with just one hand-reared Greater chick as a result.

All four Somali wild ass youngsters are doing great and it´s nice to observe them playing together.
 
Does anybody have any information on the Hartmann's Mountain Zebras that are now at Blackpool Zoo in the UK.

Helene one of the females born at Dvur Kralove 07/10/04 and Bette another female was born 11/04/93 does anybody know their parents?
 
0.3 Australian pelican have arrived from zoo Berlin.
The zoo's 148th Rothschild's giraffe has been born.
0.0.2 secretary birds hatched successfully.
0.0.2 marabou storks have also hatched this year.

Under an animal exchange programme, the Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic has made all arrangements to gift four Cheetahs to the Nehru Zoological Park, which has never played host to this animal in the last 50 years.

“We received a mail from the officials of the Dvur Kralove Zoo on Thursday informing us that they were sending four cheetahs aged between five and seven.

They will reach the zoo on Feb 17th morning,” K Shekar Reddy, in-charge curator, Nehru Zoo, told City Express.

The zoo park will be the second in the country after Mysore to get cheetahs.

The Mysore zoo had got a pair of cheetahs from Germany just five months back. Under the animal exchange programme, the Nehru Zoological Park will gift a pair of Asiatic lions and five female Gharial crocodiles to the Dvur Kralove Zoo in return for the four cheetahs. “We were also informed in the mail that we need not send the Asiatic lions and five female Gharial crocodiles immediately.

They said they will get back to us after a couple of months and inform us when to send the animals as they need to take their weather conditions into consideration,” Reddy said.

No, there is not. And why do you think so anyway? Dvur Kralove just knows the zoo business and those regions others hardly ever do give a blink in any animal exchange deals just a little bit better. :eek:
 
what I meant was that kiang posted the same news item from an earlier newspaper article a month ago, and docend24 from Prague said "lol, again? Know your sources..." which made me think that it is old or incorrect news being recycled.
