ZOO Dvůr Králové Dvůr Králové

Not four but three cheetahs were sent to Hyderabad (14 February).
The last one is pregnant and couldn't travel because of that, should be send later. Look like it may not be a hoax this time we'll see how smoothly the other part of the exchange will go.

Director of Dvur Kralove has resigned

Dvur Kralove zoo director resigned

Dvur Kralove zoo director Dana Holečková after 16 years in office and nearly a quarter of a century in the garden on Wednesday evening resigned his post.

"Not leaving on bad terms. I am sincerely glad that among other things managed to make the idea of Josef Vagner 1967 - complete a large range of cars for safari visitors. Therefore strongly reject the criticism targeted headed for many years against my person, members of the Board but also against the top leaders of the region, built on lies and half-truths purpose, "she wrote in a resignation statement Holečková.

The idea to retire in Holečková matured about two weeks ago, when he published a report on the upcoming elimination Zoo Dvur Kralove in the Union of Czech and Slovak zoo (UCSZOO) for alleged violations of the code of ethics when working with animals.

Message, after which the Governor Kralove, forced to negotiate from a position zoo founder, unofficially called Holečková to resign later refuted boss David UCSZOO Leaders.

"It was a human, not a professional matter. Few would have endured something similar, so there were even better views of Dr. Holečkov viewfinder media removed. Holečková the director was not long, though the zoo was anything wrong, "said Chairman Marian Slodičák gardens.

Holečková faced criticism for transporting four northern white rhinos to the reservation form in Kenya, where there is an attempt to save the last living individual of this species.

Most interesting thing there for me is actually that Dvur is to be expelled from UCSZOO as well as EAZA, which I hadn't heard before. The controversy clearly has some way to run yet. A shame because as a place to visit it's very good indeed, and it's breeding record is superb.

I am relieved to hear that. Dvur needs to be part of EAZA, WAZA and UCSZOO and it was clear that wasn`t going to happen again with the former director.
I don`t know to judge if the fallout she had with all these people/organizations was her fault and the result of actual wrongdoing (it surely was a lot more then just the controversy about the northerrn white rhinos!). But whatever it was, the zoo needs to llok into the future and repair their relations with others in the zoo community, and that was impossible with her.

If someone knows more about the reasons for all these problems, I`m interested to know. Violation of code of ethics sound like animal welfare problems - maybe too much cooperation with animal dealers/ selling animals to circusses?
I have to admit I am concerned by how many rare animals that are obviously wild caught find their ways into czech zoos.

The Persian leopard Jacqueline had a caesarian operation. Two cubs (a male and a female) are alive but are beeing hand-reared. The mother is still in bad shape and had a second operation.

The pelican winter breeding season ended. Reared were 7 Pink-backed, 8 Great White, 6 Dalmatian and 11 Spot-billed chicks.

Eight year old Orangutan, Besar left Dvur for Bassin D'Arcachon in France today

White rhinos Natal and Jessica mated this week. Jessica was transferred from Hodenhagen to Dvur this April.
