On Dec. 22 an Ocean sunfish was rescued by the people of Ecomare and after some start-problems the fish started to eat quite well. It was therefor a big disapointment when the fish was found dead last sunday ( Jan. 31 ). The fish lived also almost 6 weeks at Ecomare and the body is send to Utrecht to find out more about the cause of death.
 
The two North Atlantic Harbour porpoises in Ecomare, Michael and Dennis, have moved back to the Dolfinarium in Harderwijk. The two males were temporarily housed at Ecomare, but were still owned by the Dolfinarium. The agreement for their stay at Ecomare expired at the end of 2020. The enclosure will be renovated and made suitable for seals.

A special bird was brought to Ecomare's bird sanctuary last night. It's a thick-billed murre (Uria lomvia). This species has only been seen in the Netherlands for the twelfth time.

The thick-billed murre was found on a bicycle path. He was weakened and could therefore be picked up. At Ecomare, he can regain his strength and rest.

Visitors to Ecomare can watch the bird through the window of the bird sanctuary. When the bird has recovered, it will be released at the sea.

Sadly the bird passed away today.

On Wednesday an Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica) was brought in.
Ecomare also took care of a couple of Common murres (Uria aalge), one Northern fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis), one Northern gannet (Morus bassanus) and a Scottisch carrier pigeon.
