Myself and my girlfriend went up to Edinburgh Zoo today - the 9th April 2011 - and made full use of the extended opening hours which started at the beginning of the month and the very fine weather to have a nice long day there
a full report will be forthcoming, along with photos, as we have much to tell but are a little too sleepy to write much at the moment!
Little tidbits to keep people going, as well as to help remind us of key things we want to discuss:
1) There has been an anteater birth.
2) A lot of the harder to see creatures, such as aardwolves, golden cats, binturong and marbled polecats were taking full advantage of the sunny weather and were basking in full view most of the day.
3) The pygmy hippo pair may have been attempting to mate this afternoon.
4) We suspect there might be further short-clawed otter births on the way, as the adults were to be seen carrying nesting material back and forth all day.
5) Work is going well, so far as we could tell, on the ongoing refurbishment of the entrance to the zoo, as well as the preparation for the arrival of the giant pandas later this year.
