Edinburgh Zoo Edinburgh Zoo news 2011 #1

What was on your t-shirt?

A group (trio I think) of Rastafarian Chameleons. I think it's more likely they were reacting to the colour which was light orange heading towards salmon pink (come to think of it that sounds awful, maybe the animals were right to react:confused:).

One of the Cuban Crocodiles launched up the side of the enclosure at me (which was "exciting"), a Gould's Monitor didn't want to be near me (no problem with the other six members of our group) and a Caiman (can't remember which one without my notes, at work at present) went from a sedentary position to aggressively/defensively move to the front of enclosure when I went near the glass to look at it. Could have been coincidence, who knows (the only way to find out would be to wear the same t-shirt when I visit the place again, which I won't as it reflected really badly making photographs harder work).

Cancer-sufferer Laura Gibson, 15, and her friends were told to change out of their costumes before entry into Edinburgh Zoo in case they upset the creatures.

Teenagers dressed as Easter bunnies turned away from zoo over fears they would cause animals 'psychological damage' | Mail Online

Something a lot of people failed to mention, including EZ's PR person was that this day coincided with a CAPS day of action. As I'm sure a lot of people on here are aware CAPS is an anti-zoo organisation and on the day in question, Saturday of Easter weekend, CAPS had publicised a day of action, including Edinburgh, with people dressed in animal costumes standing outside the zoo! Interestingly, as well, when these people arrived their car was immediately followed by a car with a media photgrapher!

Was Pendaker born at Dudley? I know one of the cubs born at Dudley went to Portugal but I'm not exactly sure which establishment it went too.

Your correct. Pendaker was born 20th May 2005 to Sarah and Filon. His mate in Lisbon is called Gloria and she was born in 2002 at Rotterdam

I see on ISIS, Edinburgh are down to one male Siberian musk deer, i do hope we are not going to lose this wonderful species from our shores.

Good to hear :) I plan to go to Edinburgh on Sunday - wonder if she will be on show by then...

She is on show already, as she has the smaller half of the tiger enclosure. So in theory you might see if as long as she's not hiding in the house or just out of sight.

I shall endeavor to get photographs for this site, then :)

A group of 4.3 Mesopotamian Fallow Deer have arrived from Stuttggart Zoo.

Was just about to report this! Very good news - the RZSS's eye for a weird ungulate is clearly still there.
