Last month South Australian Parliament was told Adelaide Zoo was preparing a new business plan after another, $1.2 million, bailout from the state government.
The zoo was plunged into financial crisis in 2011 with debts blowing out to almost $25 million after borrowing for major redevelopments, including a new enclosure for giant pandas Wang Wang and Funi.

IMO it seems a rather limpish decision by EZ Council. For the record: it was Council that was responsible for the whole charade surrounding the old directorships and made it into a complete shambles. CEO Hugh has indeed done a great job. Being replaced by one who in Oz has managed to create a largish overdraft by living on largesse ... You tell me, I feel CEO Hugh is made to move for a Council failure, so totally unjust.
Thanks for pointing that out (CEO being interim).
Having said that ... I still feel IMO quite rightly ... that RZSS Council should in part be replaced instead of a well functioning director grouping.
And when the issue comes up it is for the forum too.

1:0 Malayan Tapir from Dortmund, a replacement for the previous breeding male who died in 2011
1:0 Dik Dik, new male Golden Cat and a female Kudu from Rotterdam
As well as 2:0 Swamp Wallabies from Santa Ana Zoo, California

A fair few well travelled animals there, especially glad to see the zoo respond so quickly to the death of the male tapir, but another male dik-dik and golden cat, i'm grasping to understand those moves.
Also one for the sky+, next Saturday on the BBC news channel at 10.30pm a behind the scenes programme, following the keepers at the zoo.

This is a very interesting move. I would of thought the older female (Sayang) would be retired/moved to another collection and the young female (Nadira, her daughter) would become the breeding female. However, this isn't the case it seems Nadira will have to be moved on as her father (Ka?) is almost certainly related to the new male.
For those of us who can't keep track of all the pet names, what species are all these?

The arrival of a new male golden cat is perfectly reasonable - their older male, Bruno, passed away in Feb 2012, leaving them with the younger male, Ipoh, and the female Swai-fai. These individuals are siblings from Parc Des Felins in France, and for obvious reasons cannot breed!
Therefore, I'd assume this new male from Rotterdam has arrived as a potential mate for Swai-fai.
I never realised Bruno had died, thx for clearing that up Dave.

Thanks for clearing that up Dave - the new male would be the obvious candidate as he is un-related to Swai-Fai. Is there plans to keep Ipoh and bring in another new female or move him on? Do you or anybody else know where they all are now has the new male taken up residence on the Carnivore row or has he moved near the Polecats?
Hadn't realised Bruno had died either.
Isn't it Ipoh that has the reputation as being a 'lady killer' - literally? I beleive he killed a previous potential mate.

I though Ipoh was a very young cat when he first arrived at Edinburgh..so figured he had just left his parents. But i might have this wrong
I doubt it was Ipoh you are thinking of - he arrived at Edinburgh in 2009 directly from Parc Des Felins in France, where he was born in 2008. Haven't a clue whether it was Bruno or another male elsewhere you are thinking of, though.
