Edinburgh Zoo Edinburgh Zoo News 2018

I was speaking to Darren McGarry (head of living collections) and he said some staff members had been to Copenhagen for training and there were some plans for a new enclosure near the wallabies. But it may fall through.

Tassie Devil? (clue 'Copenhagen';))

I remember hearing about the Devils idea last year! The aim is apparently to lump the devils with the wallabies and koalas to form an ‘Australian’ section. He also mentioned something about turning the old carnivore row into an aviary for macaws

The easiest devils to get hold of are red devils (meaning Amphilophus labiatus rather than Man U fans). But I'm sure you're right and I look forward to their arrival.

If by "easiest" do you mean "easiest to be seen in captivity" rather than "easiest to be kept", I think some devils in genus Chrysiptera are more commonly seen than Amphilophus labiatus.

Good point!
I don't visit aquarium shops as frequently as I used to, but I don't think it would be too hard to find some red devils in the UK. I realise that other devils are available, but I don't think that little blue devils are nearly as diabolical as the big red ones :)
I would also point out that Blue Devil Blues is available at no cost from YouTube
from Walter Page, 'Hot Lips' Page, Buster Smith, Bill Basie, 'Little' Jimmy Rushing and Co.

Not seen any mention, but when we were there recently there was work going on in the area to the south of Living Links/East of Brilliant Birds - any ideas?

And two animal houses on the site of the present nyala stables with a pair of enclosures and a large viewing circuit to the north. Possibly a relocation of the pandas to allow for the redevelopment of the former Corstorphine Hospital building? There was press speculation that the developers might fund such a move to solve the planning issue.

Pandas is possible - I don't believe it's Great apes as the buildings aren't tall enough for Orang Utans, and you probably wouldn't need two enclosures for Gorillas.

Big Cats or Bears would be my bet - perhaps, building on the Polar Bear experience at HWP, they think keeping the pandas in separate houses may be better for breeding success. And getting them far away from the noise of the main road. Maybe they plan to extend the loan, or even get a new pair? There is only 3 years left on the original loan

My money would be on a new home for the Sun Bears following modern trends for providing separation facilities where bears are held. I think the chances of extending the Panda loan are between nil and zero. :D

Another exhibit redevelopment! Woohoo!!!!

Am I correct to think that is number 3 now since a month or 2 (project Giraffe House and savanna)?

Couple of new planning applications submitted:

A giraffe house & enclosure on the present site of Animal Antics and land to the west.
